Govt reassures on vaccine supply, 20-22 crore doses from next month
The government today said that it has a sufficient supply of vaccines. There will be around 20-22 crore doses from next month, it said.
N K Arora, who heads the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation in India (NTAGI) said the government aims to vaccinate at least one crore people every day.
He assured that there wouldn’t be any issue regarding the availability of vaccines. “We will have around 20 – 22 crore doses next month,” he said in a statement, adding that the health infrastructure is well spread out to ensure that the vaccination drive reaches every corner of the country, including hilly, tribal, and sparsely populated areas.
India on Monday administered more than 85 lakh vaccine doses, a record ever since it started its vaccination drive.
Data on the government’s CoWin website showed a total of 86,16,373 vaccine shots were administered on Monday.
“Today’s record-breaking vaccination numbers are gladdening. The vaccine remains our strongest weapon to fight COVID-19. Congratulations to those who got vaccinated and kudos to all the front-line warriors working hard to ensure so many citizens got the vaccine. Well done India,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in a tweet.
Over half of these doses were administered in states including Madhya Pradesh (16.01 lakh), Karnataka (10.86 lakh), Uttar Pradesh (6.90 lakh), Gujarat (5.05 lakh), and Bihar (4.88 lakh).
Haryana administered 4.80 lakh doses and Rajasthan, 4.35 lakh, following Maharashtra (3.80 lakh), Tamil Nadu (3.41 lakh), Assam (3.39 lakh), West Bengal (3.21 lakh), Odisha (2.86 lakh), and Kerala (2.62 lakh).
The Centre changed the vaccination guidelines from June 21, after several states said they were finding it difficult to procure vaccines.
