‘83′ rakes in 16 crore at the Box Office

Ranveer Singh starrrer ‘83’ has recorded a good collection on its second day at the box office. The early estimate of Saturday business hints a positive trend. According to Boxoffinceidia.com, the Hindi version of the sports drama collected around 16 crore nett on day two. The film stands at the total of Rs 28 crore nett in two days. It recorded a growth of around 30-35 per cent on Saturday, mostly because of the national holiday of Christmas.
‘83’is performing well in main metro cities but beyond that, it is facing some stiff competition from ‘Spiderman: No Way Home’ and ‘Pushpa’ (Hindi). After a low opening, ‘83’ has managed to collect a good day 2 business. It remains to be seen if this sports drama manages to record a similar growth on Sunday.

Directed by Kabir Khan, ‘83’ narrates the story of the India cricket team’s iconic win during the world cup in 1983. Speaking about the film, Kabir Khan had exclusively told ETimes, “You know, 83 is a big responsibility for me. I knew if I don’t recreate this correctly, the country will not forgive me. Ditto for Ranveer: If he won’t portray Kapil correctly, the audience will not forgive him. And as you see from the trailer, he has done it brilliantly. He worked very hard.”
Deepika Padukone, who is co-producing the movie, plays the role of Ranveer’s onscreen wife in this entertainer. Speaking about casting her in this movie, Kabir had shared, “I didn’t have Mrs. Kapil Dev on my mind as a character in the story of 83 when I was writing it. But when I met Romi, I realised that Kapil is incomplete without Romi. She has an energy that makes Kapil Dev complete. However, I knew one thing: We couldn’t give Romi’s character much screen time as the story revolves around the cricketers. Now, Deepika is not just one of the finest actresses and a superstar but I got the energy from her that I saw in Romi that reflects on Kapil Dev.”

‘83’ also stars Pankaj Tripathi, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Jiiva, Saqib Saleem, Jatin Sarna, Chirag Patil, Dinker Sharma, Nishant Dahiya, Harrdy Sandhu, Sahil Khattar, Ammy Virk, Adinath Kothare, Dhairya Karwa and R Badree in pivotal roles.
