More than 240 old vehicles impounded till now this year
Gurgaon: Acting against the old vehicles, traffic police of Gurgaon has impounded around 31 vehicles in the past two days. Police are carrying out a drive against older diesel (10 years) and petrol vehicles (15 years) in view of NGT direction to check pollution. Till now, the police have impounded around 707 vehicles, of which around 244 have been impounded this year.
According to the National Green Tribunal’s 2015 order, petrol cars in Delhi-NCR have a life cycle of 15 years, while the same for diesel cars is 10 years. The NGT order was issued in view of increasing pollution in the region. Gurgaon traffic police has started a drive against old vehicle leading to spike in number of impounded vehicles.
On Wednesday around 17 vehicles were impounded by traffic police from different parts of the city while on Thursday around 14 vehicles were impounded. The vehicles older than 10 year (diesel) and 15 year (petrol) are being impounded by the police in Gurgaon and 13 other NCR districts of Haryana. As per the NGT direction, vehicles older than 10-15 years cannot operate in Delhi-NCR to check rising pollution.
DCP (traffic) Ravinder Singh Tomar said all kind of vehicles, including two-wheelers four-wheelers and commercial vehicles, will face action irrespective of its registration.
