Boost for Hry health sector
Gurgaon: In the next five years, the state will have 194 urban health and wellness centres, 22 integrated public health laboratories and critical care units, 17 units of 50 beds in district hospitals and five 50-bed wards in medical colleges.
The facilities have been planned under the Pradhan Mantri Atmanirbhar Swasth Bharat Yojana (PMASBY) that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch from Varanasi on Monday.
Funds worth Rs 1,048.84 crore have been sanctioned to set up the facilities across Haryana.
According to officials, Gurgaon will need two sub-centres in urban areas, 10 health and wellness centres and one primary healthcare centre and the initial estimates have been submitted to the state.
The urban health and wellness centres will provide free consultations, diagnostic services and medicines as well as plan public health activities like immunisation drives and TB, malaria, dengue prevention drives.
The objective of the scheme is to fill the gap in the health infrastructure, surveillance process, and health research in both urban and rural areas so that crisis situations can be managed better, officials have said. “This is a five-year plan. For the first year, Gurgaon’s estimates have been submitted (to the state). It needs two sub-centres in urban areas, 10 health and wellness centres and one primary healthcare centre,” said Dr Virender Yadav, the chief medical officer, Gurgaon.
Currently, the city has 33 primary healthcare centres, of which 20 are in urban areas.
As part of the PMASBY, the state government will upgrade laboratories and create additional facilities under the Indian Council of Medical Research and the National Centre for Disease Control.
It will also establish epidemiological intelligence services, bio-security and biological threat reduction facilities. Occupational health and climate change division, National Programme on AMR Containment, inter-sectoral coordination programme and a division for surveillance of fungal and zoonotic infectious diseases have also been planned.
