DTCP razed security infrastructure, say Malibu Towne residents

Gurgaon: A section of Malibu Towne residents has criticised the department of town and country planning’s (DTCP) October 27 drive to demolish several unauthorised structures allegedly encroaching upon the green belt and service road of the society as against the interest and safety of 2,000-odd families residing in the Sector 47 township.
On Thursday, a group of residents along with residents’ welfare association (RWA) president Vijay Shiv Nath and the local councilor Kuldeep Yadav met RS Batth, the district town planner (enforcement), at his Sector 14 office and submitted a letter signed by 150 people to register a protest. By razing of a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID)-enabled security barrier, guard shelters, and a gate among a few other facilities, they claimed, the DTCP had “compromised the safety and security” of the residents.
“A genset was also sealed by the department. The power supply situation in the area is erratic due to the ongoing work to lay high-voltage cables for smart city projects. By sealing the genset, the DTCP has put residents in trouble, especially with so many people still working from home and several children preparing for their pre-board examinations,” Nath said.
Batth said the demolition drive was carried out on Wednesday to remove encroachments in the form of guard rooms and temporary structures . “Various complaints have been received on various forums regarding these encroachments. During the drive, we removed an unauthorised boundary wall separating the service road and sector dividing road. Boom barriers that had been erected on internal roads connecting the sector dividing roads without permission were also removed,” he said.
Suresh Dhundia, a resident of Malibu Towne, told TOI that after they handed over the letter the DTCP had assured them that there would be no further demolition without a hearing since the boom barriers and generator set were installed with the consensus of the residents.
