Haryana: Protests erupt against Centre in Ambala region under ‘Vishwasghat Diwas’ call of SKM
AMBALA: The farmers and social organisation activists held protests against the Centre at the district headquarters in Ambala, Kurukshetra and Yamunanagar districts in Haryana, following the call of ‘Vishwasghat Diwas’ (betrayal day) given by Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) on Monday.
To register their protest on social media, Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) Charuni from its official Twitter handle attached the letter (dated December 9, 2021) of assurance by the Union ministry of agriculture and farmers welfare to the farmers, following which the SKM had suspended the year-long protest from the Delhi borders on December 11, 2021.
Along with a government letter, BKU Charuni in their tweet wrote, “Farmers across the country are observing ‘Day of Betrayal’ by @narendramodi Modi Govt had promised compensation cancellation of police cases & MSP (minimum support price) but nothing delivered yet. #ModiBetrayingFarmers”

Meanwhile, following the call of SKM, the farmers supported by some social activists gathered at the district headquarters and raised slogans against the Narendra Modi government. The farmers held BKU Charuni flags and after staging the demonstrations outside the offices of deputy commissioners (DCs) in Ambala, Kurukshetra, and Yamunanagar, they burnt the effigies of Prime Minister (PM) Modi.
To register their protest, the farmers handed over their memorandums to the officials at the DC offices in the name of President of India Ramnath Kovind.
The protesting farmers were led by district office-bearers of BKU Charuni.
The farmers demanded that the government should immediately act on the written assurances given to the SKM before the suspension of their protest, including the forming committee on MSP, compensation to the “martyred farmers” through Uttar Pradesh (UP) and Haryana state governments, withdrawal of criminal cases against farmers, and others.
To a query about criminal cases on farmers, BKU Charuni spokesman Rakesh Bains said, “Only some cases of Haryana and Punjab have been withdrawn while most of the cases are still standing against the farmers. That is why the SKM in its review meeting gave a call to mark Vishwasghat Diwas on January 31.”
Another demand raised by farmers includes, “the removal of Union state minister of home Ajay Mishr Teni from his ministerial post, who is involved in the criminal conspiracy related to Lakhimpur Kheri murders”.
The farmers also slammed the government of India entering into an agreement with Australia to throwing open the dairy industry for them.
The farmers demanded from the President to remind the government of India of its written assurances and get them implemented at the earliest.
The protesting farmers also warned in their memorandum that if the government backs down from its written assurances then they will be left with no other option but to restart their Andolan (agitation).
SKM has said that if the government of India fails to accept their demands then Mission UP will be started from the first week of February, on the lines of Mission West Bengal and an appeal will be made to the public to vote against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and some strict decision would be made in their next meeting.
