Naivedyam – More South Indian Grub for your buck

Image
My love for South Indian food makes me eat at road side dhabas and restaurants alike. The crispy dosas, soft idlis and sambhar can make me drool at all times. I visited Naivedyam in Sushant Lok , Gurgaon for the first time today after hearing raving reviews about it. Since we were early, the South Indian restaurant looked empty but came across as big, clean and unostentatious. We were greeted & seated by a pleasant looking Northeastern steward wearing Rajnikanth style lungi & shirt . The menu books (can’t call them cards) came in pronto, water was served equally fast and the chutneys – Poof! They just appeared out of nowhere. The next thing to delight us was a complemntary glass of butter milk for all of us – great stuff. I was a bit puzzled a bit by finding the chutneys a tad thinner and enquired. The order taker explained that they were fresh and made just about then so were not refrigerated at all. The taste of the three chutneys was overall very good. The food order today c

Purani Delhi Express - Wholesome Homesome Food

Image
The Manchandas are not new to the food business. Mr C.P. Manchanda still operates his catering business out of New Delhi. So when the family moved to Gurgaon it was natural for the younger Nitesh Manchanda to follow his father’s footsteps. The result of which is Purani Delhi Express located on the ground floor of Sushant Tower, Sector 56, Gurgaon. Purani Delhi Express is not about Purani Dilli ka khana, its more about wholesome homesome food that can be ordered in or taken away. Purani Delhi Express does not have a dine in facility. States Nitesh “We opted for a takeaway/ home delivery model to minimise costs since affording a dine in restaurant in a Shopping Mall would come with heavy rentals”. They however do outdoor caterings when an opportunity presents. The phones do not stop ringing, the ranges do not slacken down and neither does the staff of twelve boys who Nitesh manages. As one looks into the kitchen there is action everywhere, not even one person is idling around. Lot of t

Traffic Advisory for One Way Reversal in DLF 4 - Supermart - Galleria

The direction of the one-way of two key roads in the DLF4 area on Vyapar Kendra – Supermart Road and Galleria – Hamilton Court Road is being reversed by the Gurgaon Traffic Police w.e.f. Saturday 31 August 13. The new plan has been prompted by the growing pressure put on stretches of Golf Course Road due to the upgradation work, as well as various traffic surveys which came up with this proposed traffic flow reversal with the objective of improving traffic clearance and movement. The reversal of direction will ensure that more commuters are able to take free left turns, and thus waiting time at lights will be minimised. Traffic on the Supermart Road stretch which currently moves from Sector 27/42 roundabout towards HUDA City junction will now reverse direction and move from HUDA City towards Sector 27/42 roundabout. On the parallel road, traffic will move from Golf Course road side starting at Jan Pratinidhi apartments near the Arjun Marg T junction towards the direction of Galleria ma

Wokamama - The Ball is Slipping

Image
Wokamama is a hot favorite of Gurgaonites when it comes to Chinese and Southeast Asian food. The restaurant is located on the Main Nathupur Road, DLF Phase III, Gurgaon and offers a casual indoor ambiance coupled with a beautiful terrace with private “cabanas” which are fabulous to dine in especially in Winters. The food selection is a potpourri of dishes selected from Chinese, Thai, Japanese and other South East Asian cuisines. Wokamama by far is the best place to eat Khaw Suey in Gurgaon which was part of our order. Khaw Suey  (Rs.595) is the traditional Burmese noodle soup made with curried coconut milk and comes from from the mountains of Shan. It is usually accompanied with with boiled and chopped eggs, peanuts, browned shallots, lemon, burnt garlic cloves, chopped coriander, scallions and paprika. Khaw Suey in itself is a full meal and Wokamama does perfect justice to it. Moreover, the portion is good enough to fill three bellies. The second dish on order was Thai Chicken in Re

Hachi Ba - Tibetan & Chinese Restaurant

Image
Hachi Ba – Tibetan & Chinese Restaurant  is clocking almost three years and has been a personal favorite for a while now. Interestingly, the restaurant’s name “ Hachi Ba ” translates to number 88 (Hachi means 8 in Japanese while Ba means 8 in Pinyin) both equating prosperity and wealth. The interiors are spartan but pleasantly soothing, quite like simple Tibetan restaurants in Leh. The restaurant is air-conditioned, has sturdy walnut finish furniture and the walls are decked up with large  Thangka  paintings. Hachi Ba also has an outdoor seating of benches and tables which is fabulous during the winters and otherwise pleasant days. The place is run by  Kalsang Kelly  who promises & delivers an authentic Tibetan and Chinese experience. Trained by no one else but his father in the trade, this ex-model & film production coordinator turned restaurateur is at the helm of affairs daily. From buying vegetables and meats, to taking orders and getting them to the table in time, to s
