Flaunt Your Style on the Road, Stand Out

Everyone has their own distinct personality, which they try to showcase by way of the products they own. Whether it’s the latest mobile phone or the latest fashion they sport. You can now add your vehicle to that list too! Nowadays our roads are filled with too many similar looking cars with their color being the only distinguishing factor. However, there is a growing trend of car customization wherein more and more people are going in for a complete makeover of their vehicles that catches attention and makes them stand out. Car wrapping is a fairly new trend catching up in India. This is a quick and cost-effective solution to give a complete new look to your otherwise old car. What is a Car Wrap? Cafe Gartino - Looks Promising

Café Gartino located in Sector 29, Gurgaon opens its doors to the patrons today. A brainchild of T.P. Singh & Kulbeer Singh, Café Gartino promises to change the way restaurants in Gurgaon entertain their guests. Not to be judged by the word “Café” by itself, Café Gartino is not just a Café but also a Lounge & Bar which offers a multifarious cuisines. Totally designed indigenously, Café Gartino uses interesting (read .. quirky) interiors made of recycled automotive and plumbing items. Don’t be surprised if you sit on a table with an engine block as a stand or when you see bulbs sticking out of plumbing pipes. Spread over two levels it can house 150 people comfortably. The upper level has a typical café type of seating, an outdoor sitting on a covered deck as well as a spacious garden. The lower basement on the other hand is done up like an American diner has diffused lighting and a huge DJ’s console. Lighting is LED powered and can be dimmed or brightened as required though I m

Anya Hotels - New Kid on the Block

Image
Anya Hotels & Resorts have come up with their maiden venture on the Golf Course Road, Gurgaon in the form of 117 rooms Business Boutique Hotel, that includes 15 suites. The hotel located ideally for a discerning business traveller who likes to indulge in a bit of luxury, budgets permitting of course. Major MNC’s like American Express, GENPACT, DELL, Aon Hewitt & popular shopping venues are just around the hotel giving it an added edge. The hotel is chic with a lot of open spaces which one realises after a suspicious entry through a narrow alley they call a “porch”. The ballgame changes once the valet greets you with a “Namaste”, gives you a parking token and guides you to the entrance of the lobby. The lobby is resplendent with modern architecture, original artwork and a voluminous atrium adorned by three huge chandeliers. I am told the chandeliers look absolutely fascinating as the daylight fades away. The check in for guests is sit down which looks comfortable & the conci

This Babli is “Besharam”

Director Abhinav Kashyap’s second outing after Dabangg was eagerly awaited. Every body wanted to see the rustic magic that Abhinav weaves through his stories. Also, the trailers were very promising and Ranbir Kapoor , the scion of the legendry “Kapoor Khandaan” was appearing on screen with his real life parents! All in all there were so many expectations from the film!!!! The film is entertaining in parts. There are sequences that are funny but those are not enough to take you through the bad parts. After “Do Dooni Chaar”, I expected a lot more from the Chautalas – Both Chulbul & Bulbul ( Rishi Kapoor / Neetu Kapoor ) pair but they failed to impress. Ranbir, fresh from the success of YJHD and the rejuvenating “holiday” he took recently is playing the protagonist “Babli” . Pallavi Sharda is unimpressive as his love interest. I very often ask myself this question that what is more powerful? Script or Actor? And there are enough examples to support both the arguments. I think Ranbi

Humayun's Tomb - A Walk Through the Past

Image
AM 6.15 – Humbly! It is an unknown hour to me. However, today was different. The duo, a very upbeat  Mahadevan Chidambram and I, the drowsy eyed reluctant early bird, had planned for a short motorbike ride to photograph the recently restored Humayun’s Tomb . The monument that took 9 years to build 400 years ago took 7 years to restore (Wow!) and has been the talk of the town ever since Prime Minister Manmohan Singh inaugurated it on 18th of September 2013. The massive restoration work of Humayun’s Tomb was undertaken by the Aga Khan Trust for Culture & Sir Dorabji Tata Trust, in partnership with Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). It involved a 200,000 man-day effort of craftsmen (including master craftsmen from Uzbekistan) who worked to apply 21,000 square metres of lime plaster, reset 5,400 square metres of sandstone on the terrace and lift 3,700 square metres of stone plinth to reconstruct the collapsed arcade and dome. Around 12 hectares of lawns were replanted, and over 250

Mandawa - An Open Art Gallery - A Review

This town of Mandawa is literally an “open art gallery” and is located in Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan in India – a part of Shekhawati region. By the odometer Mandawa is exactly 270 km from Hotel Bristol Chowk (Gurgaon 0) on Mehrauli Gurgaon road, Gurgaon. Mandawa was a trading outpost for the ancient caravan routes that stopped here from China and the Middle East. Thakur Nawal Singh, the Rajput ruler of Nawalgarh and Mandawa, built a fort in 1755 to protect the outpost. The township grew around the fort and attracted a large community of traders, who settled here. Today, Mandawa attracts tourists from world over who are left in awe with the frescoes on the Havelis and in the Mandawa Fort (also called Castle Mandawa ) which is a heritage hotel now. Mandawa is well connected with a vast network of roads, most of which are decent. The indecent ones are bone rattlers and will claim your tailbone especially if you are riding a motorcycle which I was. To minimise the damage it is bette

Bikers in Gurgaon Conquer Mandawa

Image
After Amritsar on the 15th August 2013, the fraternity group Bikers in Gurgaon (B.I.G.) Riders added Mandawa as yet another destination accomplished, interestingly on 15 September 2013 – just a month after accomplishing Wagah Border, Amritsar. Five BIGGIES, the name the Bikers in Gurgaon go by …  Saumitra Chaturvedi ,  Mahadevan Chidambaram ,  Rahul Bhatt ,  Mayank Rao  &  Sumit Malhotra  rode more than 550 kms over two days and visited the desert town of Mandawa also called the Land of Havelis in the Shekhawati region of Rajasthan unfazed by the blistering heat, treacherous highways and sands of the desert. The BIGGIES rode on the NH-8 till Behror and then moved on to the state highway towards Narnaul and then onward to Singhana, Chirawa, Jhunjhunu to finally rest for the night at the Paawana Haveli in Mandawa. The town of Mandawa is resplendent with aging and lavish fresco paintings on the walls which makes it look like an “ open art gallery “. Heritage and culture is abound i
