GMDA kicks off repair work on key new sector roads

Image
Gurgaon: People residing in sectors 81 to 115 and commuters frequenting these areas could soon find the roads to be significantly more motorable, with Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) working towards making them “pothole-free” within the next “two to three months”. According to officials, the roads between sectors 58 and 115 have been in poor shape ever since they were handed over to GMDA by Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP). Recently, these stretches were internally transferred within GMDA, from one division to the other, further delaying repairs. Now, however, annual repairs have been initiated, with the GMDA first targeting the stretches between sectors 81 and 115, which house several gated condominiums, hotels, office complexes and commercial spaces. “We have started a drive to make the entire road network free of potholes by undertaking maintenance and patchwork along the stretches. This is routine work, normally done after the monsoon. We expect that

Raseen is very emotional as he tells ETimes, “Today is Kakaji’s (as Rajesh Khanna was fondly called) birthday. I miss those lunches and dinners, I miss those long drives we went out for. Above all, I miss those chatting sessions with him, he used to open his heart and share with me almost everything.” Rajesh Khanna would have been 79, had he been alive today. Raseen especially recalls Rajesh Khanna’s last birthday- December 29, 2011, when he was alive. “By that time, Rajesh Khanna knew he was suffering from cancer. Raj Kapoor wanted Rajesh Khanna in THIS film

Image
If Raj Kapoor had his way, it wouldn’t have been his younger brother Shashi Kapoor but Rajesh Khanna who would have played the male lead in his home production ‘Satyam Shivam Sundaram’ opposite Zeenat Aman. Well, Raj Kapoor had finalized the modalities with Rajesh Khanna who had loved the role. What happened behind the scenes is another interesting story which ETimes is today going to tell you about. Like always, we have the exclusive details. Raj Kapoor was very fond of Rajesh Khanna as an actor and asked him if he would like to come on board of ‘Satyam Shivam Sundaram’. Kakaji (as Rajesh Khanna) was fondly called and agreed soon enough. But Team ‘Satyam Shivam Sundaram’ was not in favour of casting Rajesh Khanna. They told Raj Kapoor to cast Shashi Kapoor instead. Next, Raj Kapoor broke this news to Rajesh Khanna on his birthday, which falls on December 29 (today also is December 29). Rajesh Khanna told him not to worry. Destiny is funny and many years later, Rishi Kapoor appr

Image
Of the vaccines against COVID-19 approved in India, Covovax would be a better booster for those who were administered Covishield jabs than another dose of the same vaccine, according to the data available presently, noted virologist Dr Shahid Jameel said. Jameel, the former head of the advisory group to the Indian SARS-COV-2 Genomics Consortia (INSACOG), said there is no data for the other combinations of vaccines as of now. “Data available at this time suggests that of the vaccines approved in India, Covovax would be a better booster in Covishield-vaccinated people than another dose of Covishield,” he told PTI. Officials have, however, said the “precaution dose” will be a third dose of the same vaccine that a person has taken. Covovax has been developed by US-based vaccine maker Novavax Inc. that had announced a licence agreement with the Serum Institute of India (SII) for the development and commercialisation of NVX-CoV2373, its COVID-19 vaccine candidate, in low and middle-incom

Jind: One struggle ends in win, another begins for kin of farmers who died

Image
By: Sagarika Kissu JIND: A garlanded framed photo of a smiling Karamveer Bhanwala greets every visitor at his modest home in Jind’s Singhwal. His family has placed a portrait of Bhagat Singh near it, drawing parallels between the revolutionary freedom fighter and the farmer who died during the yearlong agitation against the Centre’s three agriculture laws that have now been scrapped. The owner of less than 2 acres of farmland, Karamveer (50) was found hanging on February 7 at Tikri, one of the main protest sites on the Delhi border. A handwritten note found near his body read, “Sarkar tareekh pe tareekh de rahi hai, pata nahi kale kanoon kab radh honge (the government is only giving us dates, but we don’t know when they will take back the three black laws).” The note also urged compatriots not to head back home till their demands were met. Karamveer is one of the five farmers who died by suicide – as claimed by the Samyukt Kisan Morcha – at the Tikri border. Unions claim 114 farmer

I try to meet the expectations of my wife and my child. I love them the most. There is no effort to strike a balance because they are very understanding. Most of the time it is they who adjust according to my work schedule and I feel blessed about it.

The coronavirus that causes Covid-19, SARS-CoV-2, can spread within days from the airways to the heart, brain and almost every organ system in the body, where it may persist for months, a study found. In what they describe as the most comprehensive analysis to date of the virus’s distribution and persistence in the body and brain, scientists at the U.S. National Institutes of Health said they found the pathogen is capable of replicating in human cells well beyond the respiratory tract. The results, released online Saturday in a manuscript under review for publication in the journal Nature, point to delayed viral clearance as a potential contributor to the persistent symptoms wracking so-called long Covid sufferers. Understanding the mechanisms by which the virus persists, along with the body’s response to any viral reservoir, promises to help improve care for those afflicted, the authors said. “This is remarkably important work,” said Ziyad Al-Aly, director of the clinical epidemio
