HowIMadeIt: Jatin Sarna on playing Yashpal Sharma in 83

Jatin Sarna awaits the release of ’83’ on December 24 and you can bet that he can’t wait to see himself on the big screen, playing Yashpal Sharma. But Jatin has a mixed bag of emotions. Our guest this week on #HowIMadeIt, Jatin, says that Yashpal’s sudden demise (on July 13 this year) has left everyone associated with the film with a strange feeling.
Jatin has kept in touch with Renu Sharma, Yashpal’s wife. He reveals that she had a complicated pregnancy during the 1983 World Cup and Yashpal used to call her almost every evening at the neighbour’s house (those were the days when we all didn’t have phones and I am talking about landlines). Recounting his training period for the film that recreates the 1983 tournament played in the UK, Jatin says that his reference point was the videos but Balwinder Singh Sandhu, the official coach appointed by the makers of 83, helped him a lot. “I used to think that the ball was only meant to be hit. Sandhu ji taught me class and craftsmanship.”

For those who’ve come in late, last night we brought you an exclusive interview with Kabir Khan who has wielded the megaphone for 83. Click below to see that full interview:

Talking about his journey, Jatin is candid that he was worried when his films like ‘Sonchiriya’ did not work at the box-office. He describes the web show ‘Sacred Games’ as his game changer.

Coming back to the film 83 (starring Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, produced by Reliance Entertainment, Sajid Nadiadwala, Madhu Mantena, Deepika and Kabir) he makes a lot of revelations. See the interview to know them. Click on the above video if you still haven’t.
