At 16 degree Celsius, Gurugram records lowest maximum temperature yet

GURUGRAM: The city on Tuesday recorded its lowest maximum temperature following light, intermittent rain in the afternoon, with the mercury plunging to 16 degrees Celsius, four notches below the normal. The previous lowest maximum temperature was 18.3 degrees Celsius on December 2.
Residents woke up to shallow fog and overcast skies on Tuesday. Light rain started around noon and continued till evening, with 1 mm of rainfall recorded at the observatory. The relative humidity settled at 93%.
At night, the minimum temperature was 10.8 degrees Celsius, five notches above the normal. On Monday, the minimum temperature was 11 degrees Celsius and the maximum 20.3 degrees Celsius.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), a western disturbance is passing through the region, after which the minimum temperature will start falling gradually by two-four degrees. The IMD also issued a warning of dense fog in the morning in the next three days.
“Under the influence of western disturbance, light rainfall at isolated places, including south Haryana, was observed today. Weather condition is likely to be clear on Wednesday, with no significant change in minimum temperature,” said an IMD official.
“There will be a drop in minimum temperatures by two-four degrees in the coming days as cold winds from the northwest start blowing in the region. With the increase in humidity and drop in temperature, conditions are favourable for the formation of fog and the city is expected to witness an episode of dense fog in the coming days,” the official added.
According to the weekly forecast, Gurugram will see partly cloudy conditions on Wednesday, with the minimum and maximum temperatures likely to hover around 10 and 18 degrees Celsius, respectively.
Despite the rain on Tuesday, the city air quality deteriorated but remained ‘poor’ for the second consecutive day. The AQI reading was 283 on Tuesday, up from 250 on Monday.
On Tuesday, two monitoring stations, including Vikas Sadan and Sector 51, recorded ‘very poor’ AQIs of 302 and 343, respectively. Gwalpahari and Teri Gram recorded ‘poor’ AQIs of 261 and 274, respectively.
