The family of 14-year-old John Hilgert filed a lawsuit Wednesday against Travis Scott after Hilgert was killed during a suspected crowd surge at the Astroworld music festival. According to the reports, In its lawsuit, the family is demanding changes to make concerts safer for fans. The suggested changes include better security, more medical facilities and assigned seating. “No one should die going to a concert,” attorney Richard Mithoff said in a statement to a news agency. “The pain of our loss from our son John not making it home alive from an event such as this is intolerable,” Mr. Hilgert told Fox26. “He was a beautiful young man who simply wanted to enjoy his first concert event with friends, whom he treasured spending time with more than anything else.” The family’s attorney is also representing a friend of Hilgert’s who was injured in the reported crowd surge but made it out. Omicron reportedly has 30+ mutations in spike protein region, may bypass vaccines: AIIMS chief Randeep Guleria

Image
The new Omicron variant of coronavirus has reportedly got over 30 mutations in the spike protein region giving it the potential to develop a immunoescape mechanism, and thus the efficacy of vaccines against it needs to be evaluated critically, AIIMS chief Dr Randeep Guleria has said. The presence of spike protein facilitates a virus’ entry into the host cell and is responsible for making it transmissible and causing infection. “The new variant of coronavirus reportedly has got more than 30 mutations at the spike protein region and therefore has the potential of developing immunoescape mechanisms. As most vaccines (work by) forming antibodies against the spike protein, so many mutations at the spike protein region may lead to a decreased efficacy of COVID-19 vaccines,” AIIMS Director Dr Randeep Guleria told PTI. In such a scenario, the efficacy of vaccines including those in use in India needs to be evaluated “critically”, he said. The future course of action will depend on what mo

Nazeer Foods – A Relatively Good Nihari & Biryani in Gurgaon

Image
Nazeer Foods Gurgaon serves good food in my opinion. Though, I do have my complaints with them. For the initial launch, their portion sizes have reduced but the prices remain the same. This is unethical and doesn’t go well. Zomato also has numerous complaints about their food and packaging. And, as usual the restaurant or franchise owner doesn’t seem to take notice of moments of truth. Here is a rundown of what works with this outlet. Mutton Nihari – Mutton Nihari portion size has definitely shrunk. They use smaller containers than the usual ones for delivery. Size of Nalli in the Nihari has also shrunk. Having said this, their Nihari is optimally spiced and the meat literally breaks when forked. It is just as texture of Nalli Nihari is supposed to be. The curry is delicious and that’s the reason I order it from them regularly. Khameeri Roti – Appropriately sized soft and fluffy Khamiri Roti is my go to as well from Nazeer. It has never disappointed me, though I can’t say the sa

Children can wait, adults still priority: Experts

Image
With Europe the epicenter of the pandemic once again and countries like the US, too, seeing a surge in Covid-19 cases, a growing concern in India is whether its large pool of unvaccinated children between 2 years and 18 years, numbering about 44 crore, pose an additional risk since the country is yet to begin vaccinating this group. But experts in vaccination and public health are firm that while children will eventually need to be vaccinated, India’s priority must remain completing the vaccination of its adult population, unless there is an abundant supply of vaccines. Booster doses, too, can wait till a larger proportion of the adult population, who are more at risk of disease, is vaccinated. While there is little data yet on the new variant of concern, Omicron (B.1.1.529), the most vulnerable must continue to have the highest priority for early complete vaccination, they add. So far, India has fully vaccinated less than half of its adult population of 940 million. “If you have a

#BigStory! Can Indian films & OTT replicate success of Korean wave?

Image
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’d have noticed a sudden Korean influence on your social media feed. A scroll down ours and there are friends going ‘chan!’ (cheers) over bottles of soju (rice wine) while they indulge in tteobokki and ramayeon, yet others raving about just how good is the Korean hack to smooth skin, or playing a ‘Squid Game’ inspired game—all from their Korean made phones. Of course, this is in addition to the several discussions going on about favourite K-pop stars or the latest tearjerker of a K-drama—content that introduced Indian fans to the Korean way of life in the first place. When ‘Parasite’ director Bong Joon Ho said, “Once you overcome the one-inch tall barrier of subtitles, you will be introduced to so many more amazing films,” during his Oscar-winning speech, little must he have known that just a few years down the line, the world would be willing to go cross-eyed trying to watch content from Joon Ho’s motherland. And all this with little to no pr
