Free ration for 82k cardholders till March

Gurgaon: With the Centre extending the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) by four months, the district administration on Sunday announced that over 82,000 ration cardholders would get free foodgrain till March next year.
Deputy commissioner Yash Garg said about 3.6 lakh eligible members under the 82,000-odd cardholders would get direct benefit. “The food security scheme was started by the Prime Minister in April last year. So far, four phases of the scheme have been completed. With this extension, the fifth phase will run from December 2021 to March 2022. Over 82,000 ration cardholders will get benefits under the scheme,” he added.
District food and supplies officer Monika Malik said that in November so far, over 1,400 tonnes of wheat had already been distributed. The foodgrain has been distributed among 60,000 of the 82,000 eligible families. The remaining families would also get their supplies soon, Malik said.
