Anti-Rajkumar Santoshi slogans for non payment of dues

Image
It’s not pleasing to see anti-slogans out on the streets against the man who gave us films like ‘Andaz Apna Apna’, ‘Ghayal’, ‘Damini’, ‘Pukar’, and ‘Lajja ‘. Rajkumar Santoshi has run into trouble for not paying his workers on a film that he has been making- ‘Gandhi Vs Godse’. We reproduce a picture of some workers protesting against him, with anti-Rajkumar Santoshi posters in hand. The matter in question has reached FWICE, whose General Secretary Ashok Dubey confirmed and said, “We have had meetings with Santoshi and he has said that he will pay up. We got the complaint from the workers themselves.” Added Dubey, “It is possible that the anti-Rajkumar Santoshi posters are being done by some antisocial elements because the workers have been informed that Santoshi will complete paying their dues in a few days time.” Set between 1947 and 1948, the movie ‘Gandhi Vs Godse’ that is said to be based on Gandhi and his philosophies that are relevant even today, is almost complete. Fix flaws in infra of clusters before expansion: Industries

Image
Gurgaon: With Monday’s pre-monsoon showers yet again exposing the abysmal state of public infrastructure in the industrial areas of Gurgaon, industrialists have derided the state government’s plans to develop new manufacturing hubs like Kharkhoda while the existing ones are forced to grapple with poor power infrastructure and drainage system. From long power cuts impacting the operations at the factories to waterlogged streets making the commute of the workers and transportation of goods a near-to-impossible task, industrial operations in Gurgaon and Manesar have remained severely impacted since Monday. Industrialists say that even as the state government boasts of a landmark Rs 2,400-crore deal with Maruti Suzuki for a new automobile plant in Kharkhoda, the infrastructure of the existing industrial areas in Gurgaon, Manesar and sectors 36 and 37 (where Global City is to come up) doesn’t bode well for the expansion of new clusters. An electricity pole in Sushant Lok-1 on Tuesday GURUGRAM: With 32 transformers and 260 electric poles damaged, officials were still working to restore power supply as residents of some sectors were without electricity for over 30 hours and counting – a day after heavy rain and squall lashed the city. The 220KV substations at Badshahpur and Daultabad – which source power for large parts of the city – had also stopped functioning during the thunderstorm at night, but these had been repaired by Tuesday. Most of the damage was because trees were uprooted in the gusty winds, the officials said. Covaxin’s clinical trials can resume in US as FDA lifts hold

Image
The US Food and Drug Administration which has put on hold the phase 2/ 3 clinical trials of Bharat Biotech’s COVID-19 vaccine Covaxin, in USA, has lifted the pause, according to a statement issued by Ocugen Inc, Bharat Biotech’s partner for the jab in USA and Canada. “We’re extremely pleased that we can proceed with our clinical trials for Covaxin our whole virus inactivated COVID-19 vaccine candidate. The need for delivering an additional, differentiated vaccine option, we believe, remains a priority,” Dr Shankar Musunuri, Chairman, CEO and Co-Founder, Ocugen Inc said. The FDA’s earlier decision, in April, to put on hold the trials was based on the US firm’s decision to voluntarily implement a temporary pause in dosing participants of the jab, following the World Health Organisation’s observations on Covaxin manufacturing plants in India. “Thank you to our clinical trial partners and site collaborators for their ongoing support. Ocugen will now work with study sites to fully resume

Pay us adequately, that’s the biggest award: Asha workers

Image
Gurgaon: Anju Bala was unmoved when she found out that the World Health Organization (WHO), the health body of the United Nations, had awarded one million women Asha workers the prestigious Global Health Leaders Award, 2022. “It’s sad and funny at the same time. Today, I’m counted among the million Asha workers who received this honour… and a few months back, I was abused, slapped, kicked and suspended from work for demanding the Rs 500 promised to us for working on Covid duty,” the 45-year-old said. Bala, from Ambala, has been an Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) worker under the National Health Mission (NHM) for a decade. Her story isn’t an anomaly. Over 22,000 Asha workers in Haryana have complained of high workload, inadequate salaries and nonpayment of incentives. Their protests to demand their rights, they alleged, have triggered a barrage of backlash. Unsurprisingly, they don’t rejoice in being given the award by the WHO, which announced on Sunday that it was honourin

Rain brings more chaos than comfort in Gurugram

Image
GURUGRAM: Office-goers, students headed for an exam and flyers travelling for work meets — ‘Monday blues’ for them came on the road as they battled a maze of challenges that freak weather and shaky infrastructure had hurled at them. A road cave-in here, a flooded street there and a stretch blocked by an uprooted tree somewhere else — there were hurdles everywhere that strong winds and 73.5mm of rain early in the morning brought in their wake. Roads in several areas developed craters. There were cave-ins around IFFCO Chowk on the Delhi-Gurugram expressway, Sheetla Mata Road, Atul Kataria Chowk, Basai and Palam Vihar, among others. The service lanes of the Delhi-Gurgaon expressway and several internal stretches in Sushant Lok, South City, Palam Vihar and Gold Course road were under knee-deep water. The result? Stuck on the road for hours, people were late to reach office, students got held up for their exams and several cancelled flights turned a nightmare for travellers. Although th

From being shaky to battling nervousness and finally gaining some confidence – it was a tough ride for Raj Kapoor’s son. His co-star and close friend, Dalip shared some fond memories of Chimpu Kapoor. “When I met him for the first time, he told me, ‘Dalip, my hands are shaky. I am facing the camera after 30 years. I don’t know what to do. I am Raj Kapoor’s son, I have everything and yet I have nothing. Everybody has forgotten me, I don’t have work as a director, or as an actor.’ I gave him a big hug and told him, ‘Chimpu, it is in you, back yourself and be yourself. Don’t think of anything and just go for it’. And I could see him gain confidence, scene after scene,” expressed Dalip Tahil. Making a case against nepotism, he added, “To all those who say there is nepotism in the film industr

Vaccine giant Serum Institute of India plans African plant in global expansion

Image
DAVOS, Switzerland: The Serum Institute of India (SII), the world’s biggest vaccine maker, is considering setting up its first manufacturing plant in Africa as it looks to expand globally after its success in selling COVID-19 shots, its CEO told Reuters on Monday. Africa was the only continent that did not have its own manufacturing capacity for COVID shots during the worst phases of the pandemic in the last two years, leaving it at the mercy of suppliers from overseas, including the SII. “It’s never been a better time to be a vaccine manufacturer. I’m looking at expanding our manufacturing across the globe,” SII Chief Executive Adar Poonawalla said during an interview at the World Economic Forum in Davos. “There are some great countries out there: South Africa, Rwanda, you know, to name a few that we’re looking at.” Poonawalla said he was meeting some African officials in Davos to discuss his plans. Sharma’s open criticism of Khattar came during a rally at Pehrawar village in Rohtak, where a rally had been organised to demand the release of land from government’s possession which was donated by locals to Gaur Brahmin educational institutes. Narnaund JJP MLA Ram Kumar Gautam, Badli MLA Naresh Vats, and ex-AAP state chief Naveen Jaihind were present at the event where Sharma was speaking. Members of the Brahmin community have been miffed with the BJP government in Haryana after it declared to take back land donated to Gaur Brahmin educational institutes, as the latter had failed to fulfil lease conditions. Gurugram: Garbage being dumped in vacant plots illegally, ‘no action by MCG’

Image
GURUGRAM: Residents of Sector 9A have alleged that vacant plots in the area have become dumpsites as the civic body is not taking initiative to clear municipal and construction waste being dumped there illegally. They also said there is an overgrowth of congress grass on these vacant plots, which provide a breeding ground for rodents, insects and snakes. This, they said, is posing health hazards. Sandeep Nain, a resident, said that nearly every vacant plot is in the same condition. “The entire sector is in poor condition, with an overgrowth of congress grass and dumping of waste in vacant plots. There has been no cleaning of these areas by MCG. It at least used to remove the congress grass in the past. However, the invasive species is now spread wild on the unoccupied areas and roadsides, hampering sanitation and posing a health hazard. It is scary to cross these areas, especially at night, because of the swarming insects and reptiles.” Residents pointed out that some of the vacan
