Gurgaon: The police training centre in Bhondsi and the Damdama lake area will soon be maintained using recycled water rather than groundwater, with the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) working towards laying pipelines from Golf Course Road (Extension) onwards for the purpose. According to GMDA officials, the work is estimated to cost around Rs 16.6 crore and completion will require 12 months. In total, 33 million litres a day (MLD) of recycled water will be required to maintain the two areas. “We had put forward a proposal for the supply of treated waste water to Bhondsi and from there to Damdama lake, at the last meeting of the authority in December. As directed by the chairman during the meeting, we have now written to the irrigation department regarding funds and are awaiting their response,” GMDA chief executive officer Sudhir Rajpal said. Gurgaon: The use of recycled water in the city is likely to increase from 52% to 78%, with new proposals for its use getting or awaiting approvals. Only 170 MLD of the 323 MLD of recycled water generated daily gets used currently, but seven projects in the pipeline will use another 84 MLD, according to the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA). “Of the 323 MLD recycled water generated in Gurgaon, at least 52% is currently getting used, which includes use by builders and developers. However, we can increase this to 78% by implementing seven new proposals for which agencies have sought approvals,” said a senior GMDA official. Apart from the supply of 33 MLD to the Police Training Centre in Bhondsi and the Damdama forest area, the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) has proposed to use 10 MLD in its parks. Biocon Biologics Ltd (BBL) the subsidiary of Biocon on Monday said it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Viatris’ biosimilars assets for $3.34 billion. Out of $3.34 billion, BBL will pay Viatris up to $2.34 billion in cash and the rest $1 billion through Compulsorily Convertible Preference Shares (CCPS) in BBL for an equity stake of at least 12.9% in the company. The transaction is expected to close in the second half of 2022. BBL said the cash payment of $2 billion to be funded by $800 million raised through equity infusion in BBL and the remainder to be funded by debt, additional equity or a combination. “BBL has received expressions of interest from financial institutions for debt financing and equity commitments from existing shareholders,” it added. Gurgaon: The city on Saturday reported 156 new cases of Covid-19, a drop from 169 cases recorded on Friday. The number of active cases has also come down to 953; seven are hospitalised and remaining are in home isolation. The positivity rate is 3.29%. A 68-year-old woman suffering from coronary artery disease, diabetes and hypertension succumbed to the infection on Saturday. The death toll now stands at 999. She was fully vaccinated. On Saturday, Gurgaon tested 4,744 people. The health officials said that even though fewer people are testing positive, around 5,000 tests are conducted every day. “A majority of the cases reporting positive are from large gatherings. People who are still testing positive have either attended gatherings or are contacts of people who have been to such event. Gurgaon: The proposal to expand the jurisdiction of Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) to include all parts of Gurgaon district has been put on hold, with officials citing the need for “additional manpower, resources, and funds” as the main reason behind the move. It was at the sixth authority meeting of the GMDA, in March 2020, that the issue of extending its area to make it coterminous with Gurgaon district had first come up. Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar, who is also the chairman of GMDA, had subsequently directed that the matter be “carefully considered” by forming a committee under the chairmanship of the GMDA chief executive officer (CEO) to look into the matter. He had also directed officials to consult “people’s representatives” while undertaking the task. GURUGRAM Three men on a bike tailed a sarpanch of a Gurgaon village and fired at him indiscriminately as soon as he reached his house in Sector 109 on Saturday afternoon. Yogesh Yadav, the sarpanch of Babupur village located near the Chintels Paradiso highrise society, sustained bullet injuries to his leg and chest. Yadav, who runs a water tanker business in the area, is currently recuperating at a private hospital. Police suspect the attack was the fallout of a rivalry over illegal water business in Gurgaon’s new sectors along Dwarka Expressway, where residents are largely dependent on private tankers for their daily needs. Gurgaon: Two brothers, who were liquor traders, were shot by six assailants in front of their house in Pataudi’s Khod village on Friday. Over two dozen rounds were fired at the duo, one of whom was a former councillor. Police said the murders are a fallout of personal enmity between two groups in the village, but possibility of a gang war has not been ruled out. The traders, identified as Surjeet Singh Thakran and Paramjeet Singh Thakran, allegedly had links with a gangster. They also had a feud with a group of villagers, police said. Paramjeet was formerly a zila parishad councillor, police said. The murder was captured in a CCTV camera installed at a nearby house. Two people had died when a tower at Chintels Paradiso society in Gurugram partially collapsed earlier this month. According to a senior official, the panel has been reconstituted for proper coordination. “We have different departments working on same issue. Findings and reports need to be shared and corroborated so rather than having different committees investigating, we have reconstituted the committee, including all authorities concerned,” said DC Nishant Kumar Yadav. A metropolitan magistrate court here has held in its order in a domestic violence case filed by model-actor Rhea Pillai against her former partner, tennis player Leander Paes, that he committed various acts of domestic violence against her. The court also directed Paes to pay monthly rent of Rs 50,000, apart from monthly maintenance of Rs 1 lakh to Pillai if the latter chooses to leave their shared residence. Metropolitan magistrate Komalsing Rajput had passed the order earlier this month, which was made available on Wednesday. Pillai had approached the court in 2014 seeking relief and protection under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, saying that she was in a live-in relationship, akin to marriage, with Paes for eight years. She had claimed that Paes, through his acts and conduct “caused verbal, emotional and economic abuse, which resulted in tremendous emotional violence and trauma”. The Bombay High Court on Wednesday directed actors Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan to file representation to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) against a notice issued to them for acquiring a portion of their bungalow “Pratiksha” in suburban Juhu. The Bachchans had moved the High Court earlier this week, challenging the notices issued to them by the civic body. A division bench of Justices R D Dhanuka and S M Modak directed them to file a representation to the BMC within two weeks. “Once the representation is filed, the BMC shall hear and take a decision six weeks thereafter. Once a decision is taken, no coercive action shall be taken against the petitioners for three weeks,” the court said. The court further said that if required, a personal hearing can also be given to the Bachchans’ lawyers. FARIDABAD: A head constable of the Faridabad Police was allegedly killed by her husband who later ended his life by hanging himself, officials said on Wednesday. The woman has been identified as Saroj and was posted at the women police station at Faridabad’s NIT, they said. The man has been identified as Dharmender (38) who worked as a taxi driver. The bodies were recovered from their quarter at police lines, the police said. According to the police, the couple have a 13-year-old son who had gone to his tuition when a fight broke out between the two on Tuesday night. Dharmender allegedly strangulated Saroj to death and later ended his life by hanging himself, police said. Sector 31 Station House Officer Inspector Balwant Singh said the couple’s son slept at their neighbour house when his parents did not open the door. GURUGRAM: A fast-track POCSO court in Panipat on Monday sentenced a man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping his eight-year-old stepdaughter under the influence of alcohol in 2018. Additional sessions judge Sumit Garg handed down the punishment to the man (in his early 40s) after holding him guilty of aggravated penetrative sexual assault under the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act and rape under the IPC. The court also ordered the convict to pay a compensation of Rs 75,000 to the girl. “The convict has breached the trust of a daughter in her father. Though, the victim was the step-daughter of the convict, the nature of the trust would remain the same. The offence of rape committed by the convict has thus become graver and has accordingly been placed on a graver footing in the penal code as well,” the judge observed in his order. The case was reported at the Women’s police station in Panipat on the night of August 14, 2018. The horrific crime occured
