Sri Katas Raj Tirtha Yatra to Pakistan cancelled amid Covid-19

YAMUNANAGAR: The Hindu pilgrimage to Sri Katas Raj shrine in Pakistan on the occasion of Maha Shivratri scheduled from February 27 to March 4, has been cancelled due to the threat of Omicron variant of Covid-19.
Confirming the development, the national president of Kendriya Sanatan Dharam Sabha (KSDS) (Northern India) Shiv Pratap Bajaj of Yamunanagar said on Friday that they received a letter from the Union ministry of external affairs (MEA), in which, it has been informed that, “it will not be possible to facilitate the Katas Raj pilgrimage from February 27 to March 4, 2022”.
Shiv said, “MEA’s undersecretary (Pakistan) informed that considering the pandemic situation caused by the highly transmissible Omicron variant of Covid-19 and the travel regulations put in place to contain it, it is not possible to facilitate the Katas Raj pilgrimage.”
Shiv said that the holy day of Maha Shivratri was scheduled to be celebrated at Sri Katas Raj Tirtha Sthal in Pakistan and they were fully prepared for this pilgrimage.
“A total of 150 pilgrims were scheduled to go for this pilgrimage from 12 states of the country. The list of pilgrims was also sent to the government of India and arrangements were made for visas through Pakistan’s high commission at Delhi but the pilgrimage has been cancelled before it could start”, said Shiv Pratap.
Shiv Pratap expressed regret that due to the cancellation of the pilgrimage the sentiments of pilgrims have been hurt.
The MEA also informed KSDS that other pilgrimages covered under the India Pakistan Bilateral Protocol on visits to religious shrines are also similarly affected. The MEA asked the Hindu body to convey the message to all the pilgrims to avoid difficulties.
