Dak Bangla, haunted haveli themes: NCR restos get a spook-tacular makeover

Image
How about dining with some skeletons while you make your way through the cobwebs? We aren’t suggesting a haunted haveli for this dining experience, but you can choose a restaurant in the neighbourhood if the idea of dining with skeletons and Joker excites you for this Halloween. While for many Halloween is all about spooky themed-house parties, there are others who are planning an evening out on Halloween just to check out interesting décor at restaurants and click some Insta-worthy pictures. Varun Sharma, a 27-year-old engineer from Gurgaon, says, “Two years ago, I happened to go out on Halloween and was surprised to see the spooky décor at restaurants. I loved that experience, and now each year, I look forward to going out on Halloween just to see the décor and take some cool pictures. Centre’s vaccine expenditure likely to top 50,000 crore

Image
The Central government’s expenditure on vaccination is likely to top Rs 50,000 crore which is notably higher than the expected budget of Rs 35,000 crore. The amount, however, is unlikely to put burden on the finances of the government. The figures arise from the ongoing trends and do not keep in account the prospect of vaccinating Indian population under the 18 years of age. The Indian government, like China and Indonesia, is looking to harness special windows form multilateral agencies such as ADB to raise around $2 billion at concessional prices. As it will ensure that there isn’t any pressure on market borrowings, it will also leave enough room for private sector to raise funds, an official was quoted as saying in a TOI report. The government had promised higher spending in several arenas even as the analysts predict that the fiscal deficit might end up being better this year than an estimated 6.8% of the GDP. Recently, data was released by the controller general of accounts

#BigStory: Truth behind B’wood’s drugs problem

Image
While India, along with the rest of the world, grapples with the new normal in the post-Covid era, Bollywood has had to do some purging of its own in the wake of the upheavals that have rocked the industry since last year. Sushant Singh Rajput’s sudden demise opened a can of worms. A drug angle, involving SSR’s girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty and her brother Showik cropped up, leading to their arrests. Kangana Ranaut tweeted asking B-town’s A-listers to give their blood samples for testing to clarify they were clean and not the cocaine addicts that they were made out to be. And then came a clarification tweet from Kangana, saying “99% superstars have been exposed to hard drugs and I guarantee this”. Needless to say, fuel was added to the proverbial fire. And then, a string of celebs—Deepika Padukone, Sara Ali Khan, Rakul Preet Singh—was interrogated by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) to examine their alleged involvement in drug rackets. A little over a year later, just as the psychedel

GRAP measures in place, but waste burning rampant in Gurugram

Image
GURUGRAM: The city’s air worsened on Friday, with the air quality index (AQI) being recorded in the ‘poor’ category with a reading of 262. A week ago, it was in the ‘moderate’ category. According to IMD, the wind direction will remain northwesterly till November 1. As a result, there is a possibility that the AQI will reach the ‘very poor’ category soon. The minimum temperature is likely to drop to 14 to 15 degrees Celsius with increased moisture, which is unfavourable for dispersion of pollutants. This is expected to further contribute to the deterioration of air quality. Though the graded response action plan (GRAP) has been implemented in Gurugram, garbage burning incidents are still being reported in the city. Residents of several areas have pointed out that they have observed rampant burning in the open, which has led to the rise in pollutant levels. “There was a fire in Sector 84 on Wednesday and waste was again burnt at the same spot on Friday. Gurugram: Another outfit enters protest fray, heavy security for namaz

Image
GURUGRAM: Namaz will be held under heavy security in the city on Friday with various local outfits threatening to protest at the sites of prayer congregations. DTCP razed security infrastructure, say Malibu Towne residents

On Thursday, a group of residents along with residents’ welfare association (RWA) president Vijay Shiv Nath and the local councilor Kuldeep Yadav met RS Batth, the district town planner (enforcement), at his Sector 14 office and submitted a letter signed by 150 people to register a protest. Pooja Bedi: Shame on everyone who attacked Aryan

Image
Over the years, Pooja Bedi has built a reputation for expressing her firebrand opinions. She’s always engaged in frank talk and never shied away from telling the truth. After Aryan Khan managed to procure bail from the Bombay High Court today, ETimes reached out to her to record her opinion on the case. She had, just last week, extended support to Aryan and Shah Rukh Khan with a tweet where she referred to Aryan as an ‘innocent kid’. Speaking about Aryan’s ordeal she said, “What happened to Aryan or any young kid his age is deeply unfortunate.” Pooja further explained that the media, authorities and the system were unkind to the young man. She said, “To be tossed behind bars with hardened criminals for weeks with no evidence to incriminate him, when bail should be the norm, not an exception in such cases, and to have the media breathing down your neck and projecting you as some criminal deviant, cannot be positive in any way.” Scathing criticism aside, Pooja was also quick to remin

Now, ETimes has it that ‘Sam Bahadur’ is not happening in 2021. It will start sometime in 2022 but the exact month has not been decided. What has led to the delay is that this film is not an easy one to put together and pull off. The COVID phase only delayed the preparations and the modalities kept changing. A source says, “R

Mithun Chakraborty’s daughter Dishani is following in her father’s footsteps and has been working towards making a career in acting. ETimes caught up with the superstar’s daughter for an exclusive interview where she spilled the beans on her bond with her brothers, advice that she has received from her father, and more. Excerpts… Being the daughter of a Bollywood superstar, was it obvious for you to be inclined towards movies, or did you have other aspirations? I definitely went through a rebellious phase where I told myself that I didn’t want to do anything related to acting and rather do something out-of-the-box. I took classical and western singing lessons for four years but it certainly didn’t last for a very long time, because I found my passion for films and acting very quickly. You must have grown up watching your father’s movies. Did you ever go on sets with him while he was shooting? I took every opportunity to go on the sets with them. I remember sitting in his vanity va

Gurugram’s MG Road to get Rs 14 crore pedestrian, cyclist-friendly makeover soon

Image
GURUGRAM: In a pedestrian-friendly move, the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) is planning to develop footpaths and cycle tracks along a 2.6-kilometre stretch of the MG Road between IFFCO Chowk and Sikanderpur metro station. The Authority is also planning to construct table-top crossings, demarcate dedicated vending points, upgrade bus queue shelters and create seating space under the Rs 13.87-crore project. One of the busiest stretches in the city, MG Road houses several malls — MGF Metropolitan, Sahara mall, City Centre, and Metropolis Mall — as well as private offices, hotels, gated societies and two metro stations — MG Road and Sikanderpur metro stations. As a result, the area witnesses a heavy rush of pedestrians to cross the roads that leaves it risk-prone. According to GMDA officials, table-top zebra crossings were being considered for the stretch to facilitate the movement of pedestrians and non-motorised vehicles by ensuring slower driving speeds. “The e
