Gurugram: Sarpanch shot at in front of his home, cops suspect biz rivalry

GURUGRAM Three men on a bike tailed a sarpanch of a Gurgaon village and fired at him indiscriminately as soon as he reached his house in Sector 109 on Saturday afternoon.
Yogesh Yadav, the sarpanch of Babupur village located near the Chintels Paradiso highrise society, sustained bullet injuries to his leg and chest. Yadav, who runs a water tanker business in the area, is currently recuperating at a private hospital.
Police suspect the attack was the fallout of a rivalry over illegal water business in Gurgaon’s new sectors along Dwarka Expressway, where residents are largely dependent on private tankers for their daily needs.
The attack was caught on a CCTV camera installed outside Yadav’s house. In the footage, retrieved by police, the three bikers wearing helmets could be seen approaching Yadav. First two men opened fire at him.
Police said that as soon as Yadav ran inside the house, the duo followed him and fired a few more rounds.
As the duo was caught on the CCTV camera coming out of the house, the third assailant went inside and he also fired a few rounds. Later all of them fled the spot.
Sources said that Yadav had recently filed a complaint at the Bajghera police station, highlighting a threat to his life.
Based on a complaint from his family members, a case has been registered under IPC sections 302 (murder), 120B (criminal conspiracy) and 34 (common intention) at the Bajghera police station. “We are scanning the footage and trying to identify and trace the accused,” said ACP (Udyog Vihar) Rajeev Yadav.
