Karnal: Pak handler paid Rs 50 lakh for delivering IEDs, pistol

KARNAL: The four men who were arrested with explosives and firearms in Karnal on May 5 had received Rs 50 lakh from various sources, including via hawala transactions, over the past couple of months, according to investigators in security agencies probing the case.
An official associated with the investigation revealed that Pakistan-based gangster-turned-terrorist Harvinder Singh alias Rinda had sent Rs 8.5 lakh cash via hawala and Rs 27.5 lakh cash through other sources to the four men. Also, he sent 14 packets of heroin from September last year to March this year for the job, and the the accused sold each heroin packet for around Rs 1 lakh.
Source said police had also collected CCTV footage of a spot in Amritsar in Punjab, where the accused received the money from a person. Investigation teams are analysing footage to get clues about the person.
The terror suspect had already delivered two consignments – at Nanded in Maharashtra in March this year and in Punjab’s Taran Taran in October last year. The source said during interrogation, the accused revealed to the police that the consignment, which they delivered in Nanded, comprised two improvised explosive devices (IEDs), three pistols, and three grenades. The Tarn Taran consignment had three 3 IEDs.
Karnal SP Ganga Ram Punia said they were verifying information given by the arrested men. He said police had, so far, not recovered any other consignment pending with the four accused. The four men were on their way to Adilabad in Telangana on May 5 when they were arrested at Karnal’s Bastara toll plaza in Haryana. Police had seized three IEDs in three metallic boxes (each weighing 2.5kg), a Pakistan-made pistol, 31 live cartridges, and Rs 1.3 lakh in cash from them.
