Ambala Christ statue vandalism: Police arrest two accused

AMBALA: With the arrest of two persons, the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA)-I of the Ambala police cracked the case of vandalism of a statue of Jesus Christ on Christmas at the Holy Redeemer Church.
Ambala superintendent of police (SP) Jashandeep Singh Randhawa said the accused were identified as Ravinder Singh (27) and Sandeep Kumar (28), both residents of Vashisht Nagar.
They would be produced in the district court on Wednesday, for their remand to ascertain the motive behind the act.
“During the course of investigation, our teams seized the CCTV camera footage from the Church and analysed them thoroughly. Our cyber and mobile forensic teams also collected the evidence. We also investigated through our informers following which the police arrested the accused duo,” the SP said.
“As per our verification, both the accused do not have any criminal record. While Sandeep Kumar, a BTech graduate, is posted at PWD, Ravinder has done 10+2 and he has done jobs in different corporate and pharmacy companies,”the officer said.
When asked about the motive behind the desecration, SP Ambala said, “They disclosed that Sandeep came to Ravinder’s house on a two-wheeler and both planned to go to church (on Christmas day). Both went to the church at about 6 pm to see the (Christmas) celebrations. Then they consumed liquor. They committed the crime between 12.30am to 1.30am and broke the statue with some ‘stones’. The investigation is being done from every angle,” he said.
