Prakash Padukone relives World Cup victory

Going all out to promote ’83, Ranveer Singh has shared a video of his father-in-law, Prakash Padukone reliving his memories of the iconic 1983 cricket World Cup. The badminton legend revealed that he was playing a tournament in Denmark and couldn’t watch the match but made sure he knew the score through radio and the BBC news.
“25th June, 1983, was a landmark day in the history of Indian sports. India won the world cup for the first time, most unexpectedly! We were in Denmark at that time. I was playing professional badminton. I couldn’t see the match live. Trying to get the news either from the radio or BBC. When we heard that India had won the world cup, I think it was unbelievable. India had beaten the mighty West Indies in those days. That was a turning point for Indian cricket. From what was a sport, became a religion,” Prakash Padukone stated.

Speaking about the film, director Kabir Khan had exclusively told ETimes, “You know, 83 is a big responsibility for me. I knew if I don’t recreate this correctly, the country will not forgive me. Ditto for Ranveer: If he won’t portray Kapil correctly, the audience will not forgive him. And as you see from the trailer, he has done it brilliantly. He worked very hard.”

Apart from Ranveer, ’83 also stars s Ranveer Singh as cricketer Kapil Dev, along with Deepika Padukone, Pankaj Tripathi, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Jiiva, Saqib Saleem, Jatin Sarna, Chirag Patil, Dinker Sharma, Nishant Dahiya, Harrdy Sandhu, Sahil Khattar, Ammy Virk, Adinath Kothare, Dhairya Karwa and R Badree. The sports drama is slated for release on December 24.
