This Babli is “Besharam”

Director Abhinav Kashyap’s second outing after Dabangg was eagerly awaited.

Every body wanted to see the rustic magic that Abhinav weaves through his stories. Also, the trailers were very promising and Ranbir Kapoor, the scion of the legendry “Kapoor Khandaan” was appearing on screen with his real life parents!

All in all there were so many expectations from the film!!!!

The film is entertaining in parts. There are sequences that are funny but those are not enough to take you through the bad parts. After “Do Dooni Chaar”, I expected a lot more from the Chautalas – Both Chulbul & Bulbul (Rishi Kapoor/ Neetu Kapoor) pair but they failed to impress.

Ranbir, fresh from the success of YJHD and the rejuvenating “holiday” he took recently is playing the protagonist “Babli”. Pallavi Sharda is unimpressive as his love interest.

I very often ask myself this question that what is more powerful? Script or Actor? And there are enough examples to support both the arguments. I think Ranbir took a chance with this one or probably the end product didn’t match the initial thought behind the movie. Playing a car thief with a heart of gold! There is nothing to write home about the performance or the character.

The only actor I was impressed with is Javed Jaffrey. Though his role is small, he has carried it with style and I simply loved his fervent desire for stolen mercs!

The screenplay is weak with average music score. There is nothing memorable about the dialogues either! There is no take away like Dabangg’s “Thappad se dar nahi lagta”.

Our Verdict: This “Babli” is flat.

Watchable: Yes, only if you are madly, badly, terribly, horribly in love with Ranbir Kapoor.
