By Times of India – UP buses to bring home 12k workers from Hry Noida: The UP government has started the process of transporting about 12,000 migrant workers from different parts to Haryana back to their home districts. Buses from Haryana will take these workers to five districts where stations have been set up — Bulandshahr, Mathura, Saharanpur, Shamli and Baghpat. Sources said the move, part of a nationwide operation just nine days before the end of the lockdown, hinted at the possibility of the shutdown being extended beyond May 3 and factories being ordered to remain shut for a longer period. The buses ferrying the workers from Haryana will use the Eastern Peripheral Expressway and bypass Noida, Ghaziabad and Delhi. Officials said the decision on the route was taken on Friday night after the respective administrations raised objections. “It was decided to start with Haryana as it is closer and a small state with fewer people from UP. Noida and Ghaziabad do not have too many people working in Haryana. This is why it was decided to keep the stations a little away from the borders,” an official said. According to the plan prepared by both states, a list of 11,822 people wanting to go back home in UP was given by all 22 districts of Haryana. Based on the list, the five bus stations were set up. In Haryana, most migrant workers from UP stay in Ambala (3,020), followed by Yamunanagar (2,007) and Rewari (1,161). The buses ferrying the workers will leave for 15 districts from Saharanpur, 13 districts from Shamli, and 15 each from Bagpat and Mathura. From Bulandshahr, the buses will operate for 17 districts, including a few areas in Noida and Ghaziabad. “There are 51 people from Ghaziabad who are being brought back. They will be put under quarantine for 14 days before we let them go home,” said Ajay Shankar Pandey, the Ghaziabad DM. Similar strategies are being developed for other states as well by 12 nodal officers . Sources said Madhya Pradesh was next in line and a similar operation to transport workers was likely to begin on Monday. Estimates for the workers are being prepared based on the number of people in shelter homes and quarantine facilities.
