Smiles after tense wait for results in Covid year
Gurgaon: Most frontline private schools in the city have recorded a 100% pass percentage in the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class 12 exams, the results of which were declared on Friday, bringing a tense wait to a close as a new evlauation system was used and eams were not held because of the pandemic. Over 13,000 children from 300 schools were evaluated this time.
Although the board did not release a list of district, state or national toppers this year, data from prominent private schools in the city indicates two girls — one from Amity International School and another from Salwan Public School — are among the highest scorers.
With 99.4% (best of five), commerce student Arushi Jain of Salwan Public has topped in her school. “I was the school topper in Class 10 as well and maybe that helped me this time because the board’s evaluation policy factored in performances of classes 10, 11, and 12. I was disappointed when the final exams were cancelled this year. But, I am glad that I took each assessment and internal exam very seriously throughout the year,” said Arushi (18), who is eagerly waiting to get into one of the top colleges under Delhi University.
Humanities student Hridaya Madhav from Amity International also scored 99.4% (best of five). “With the final exams getting cancelled, and a new evaluation system in place, we were very worried. But I am happy with my score. Constant guidance from my teachers helped me stay focused and consistent,” said the 18-year-old who wants to study at Lady Shri Ram College.
In the science stream, Achintya Gupta from Amity International School is one of the toppers in the city with 99%.
Schools like Suncity, Salwan Public, Ryan International, Amity International, Shiv Nadar, Heritage, Blue Bells Model, DPS, and Manav Rachna International claimed they have recorded 100% pass percentage this time.
At Suncity, all 122 Class 12 students have passed, school authorities have said. While 38 students have scored over 95%, 70 scored over 90%, and 110 students scored above 80%. Humanities student Mrityunjaya Thakur is the topper with 99%.
At Blue Bells Model School, 170 students were enrolled for the board exams and all of them have cleared it. Khushi Jain from commerce stream is the topper with 99.2%, the school has said.
At Amity International, of the 320 students, 301 got their results on Friday. The remaining students are likely to get their results in the next couple of days. According to school officials, of the 320 students who have passed, more than 30 have scored full marks in more than one subject.
At Salwan Public, 128 students were evaluated and all of them have passed. Officials said the overall average is 89% and 41% students have scored over 90%. Around 10 students have scored a perfect 100 in various subjects.
According to most institutions, calculating and tabulating the results was a tedious task because of the new evaluation system. “A lot of effort was put in by all teachers to mark the students,” said Salwan Public School principal Rashmi Malik.
