Farmers burn empty grain bags featuring BJP leaders’ pictures in Ambala villages

AMBALA: The farmers burnt the empty bags printed with photographs of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar and deputy chief minister Dushyant Singh Chautala which are being given with five kg food grains as part of ‘Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PM-GKAY) in Korwa and Bhurangpur villages of Ambala on Thursday.
The farmers said that they are not opposing the ration and grain being distributed to the beneficiaries but they are opposing the crores of rupees that are being spent unnecessarily on the publicity of the politicians. They said the food grains were given in the times of earlier government as well but it never printed such photos of the leaders.
In village Korwa, depot holder Kuldeep Singh gave ration to about 300 people in bags carrying photographs of the leaders.
The farmers took empty bags from the people at some distance from the depot and after sprinkling oil these bags were set on fire collectively in Korwa village in Naraingarh block of Ambala.
A similar protest was also held in Bhurangpur village in Ambala-I block.
The farmers said that on one hand the government is distributing ration and on the other hand, it has increased the LPG cylinder price by Rs 25 per unit. They said the pockets of the common man are being robbed.
The farmers said that the photos of the leaders have been printed on the bags to take votes and crores of rupees have been wasted on the same.
Ration distributed at 92 depots
The food grain under the PM-GKAY scheme has been distributed at 92 depots in Naraingarh and Shahzadpur during Annapoorna Utsav.
There is no information of protest apart from Korwa and Bhurangpur villages. While the presence of the leaders of the coalition government has been recorded at many places.
