Need second dose focus, door-to-door vax a way forward, says Gurgaon CMO

Gurgaon: In a continued effort to get all eligible recipients vaccinated, Gurgaon chief medical officer (CMO) Dr Virender Yadav on Friday proposed to initiate a door-to-door Covid vaccination programme in a videoconference with Dr VK Paul member of NITI Aayog.
According to the Union ministry of health and fammily welfare, 50% of India’s population above the age of 18 years has received their first vaccine doses, and 15% is fully vaccinated.
Taking this data into account, Yadav said, “We need to focus more on the second doses and door-to-door vaccination drive is a way forward. The vaccination team will stay for 30 minutes after the last inoculation to handle adverse reactions.”
Meanwhile, the district on Friday inoculated 66,877 people at 288 session sites. 60% second dose and 40% first doses were administered at each site. The recipients were allowed to walk in, drive in or book their slots online through Co-WIN portal. The district had received 80,000 Covishield doses for this drive.
There were five dedicated Covaxin sites for exclusive second doses where both offline and online slots are available. As many as 48,399 people in the age group of 18-44 years received the vaccine shots on Friday. In the 45 years-plus category, 16,529 people took the jabs.
A total of 22,128 first doses and 44,749 second doses were given to recipients in the city on Friday. “We inoculated 67% second doses on Friday as we carried out a mega vaccination drive. This is the highest second doses administered in a day by any district in Haryana so far,” the CMO added. The district on Saturday will have 48 government session sites in Gurgaon. Of these, 42 sites will give Covishield doses, while Covaxin will be given at five sites. Sputnik V will be administered to recipients at one site.
5 new cases reported in city
The city on Friday recorded five new Covid cases, taking the caseload to 1,81,044, of which 74 are active cases. Three people also recovered.
