Haryana: Now, KBC-style competition on mobile app to assess students
GURUGRAM: The state education department has decided to use the Sampark Smartshala app to assess the learning levels and improve the learning outcomes among students at the receiving end of the Covid-induced disruption in the education system, according to a circular issued by the department earlier this week.
As the students are back to schools for offline education after two years, the department has decided to conduct a MCQ-based, Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC)-type contest for students in classes 1-3 in two phases on March 31 and April 22 through the Sampark Smartshala app. Besides, the department has also announced offline examinations for students in classes 4-9.
According to the officials, the app-based contest will assess the learning levels of the students and evaluate their aptitude and interests towards subjects. “We want to assess learning outcomes and possible gaps among the students in a transparent manner. So, we are holding a centralised offline exam for classes 4 to 9. Similarly, we want to assess students of classes 1 to 3 through the app-based contest. However, we want to reduce the stress of examinations and hence, are introducing this contest-type evaluation through the Sampark Smartshala app,” said a senior education department official.
The Sampark Smart Shala Mobile App is developed by Sampark Foundation. It provides access to thousands of teaching-learning resources in Hindi, including Sampark Smart Shala animated video lessons, rhymes, stories, interactive and engaging games, proposed classroom activities, worksheets, quizzes, all mapped to state textbooks and developed following the states’ syllabus.
The directorate has issued orders to all the district education officers to get the teachers to complete the registration work for the contest. According to the officials, the questions on the app will be in the format of Kaun Banega Crorepati, where students will get prompts to attempt questions and have four life-lines.
“It’s a fun way of assessing students and improving concept retention, which has taken a major hit during the pandemic. The department has created the question bank based on the state syllabus on Hindi, English, and Maths, with 40 questions in each chapter,” said Bajghera government school head Manoj Lakhra.
“Students will be analysed according to the nature of the questions. The teachers can conduct the teaching-learning process by identifying the areas which need to be developed. The counseling officers who cooperate with the schools can also assist the schools as per the needs of the students,” he added.
