To keep traffic moving, 1,800 cops deployed at major roads

Gurgaon: As rains lashed several parts of the city on Wednesday morning and caused waterlogging on the roads, leading to traffic snarls, the traffic police once again swung into action to avoid major jams and blockades. They also kept the residents informed through their social media handle about the roads to be avoided and the overall situation on the ground, while cops posted on the ground managed traffic in knee-deep water and cleared blockages in drain at some points to tackle waterlogging.
Around 1,800 policemen were deployed across the city from early morning to deal with congestion due to waterlogging. According to police, special focus was put on underpasses and major stretches and junctions like – Sohna Road, MG Road, Golf Course Road, IFFCO Chowk, Hero Honda Chowk, Narsinghpur Chowk, Sheetla Mata Road, Udyog Vihar to control traffic situation.
From early morning, the cops shared updates on waterlogging at Basai road, IMT Chowk, Kapashera border, sectors 4,7,9, Udyog Vihar, Jwala Mill, near Dhankot, near Tikri cut, Galleria Market, Nathupur Sabji Mandi, Mayfield Garden, sector 46,47, 39, Medanta Hospital Road, Ambedkar Chowk and other areas on their social media page.
“We had identified around 38 spots prone to congestion due to waterlogging and teams were deployed at all these spots. Around 60 teams were formed to deal with the waterlogging issue,” said police chief K K Rao, adding that two team were deployed at each underpass of the city to stop entry of vehicles. Traffic was diverted from the roads that reported damages.
Police control room received more than 300 calls related to waterlogging and traffic congestion from different parts of the city. Water had entered houses in parts of Old Gurgaon, including sectors 3,5,6, Barf Khana area and adjoining localities. “We had prepared a monsoon deployment plan in advance and it helped in managing the traffic situation on Wednesday,” said an officer.
