YAMUNANAGAR: With the joint efforts of officials of Kurukshetra and Yamunanagar district health and family welfare department, the police have arrested two accused persons from the Kalanaur area in Yamunanagar district on Saturday, allegedly for running a gender determination racket.
The arrested accused have been identified as Ravi Kumar of Fatehpur village in Naraingarh, Ambala district, and Ramesh Kumar of Dhankota village in Barara, Ambala district.
The police recovered an Indian Army identity card from the possession of accused Ravi Kumar, in which, it is written that he is posted at Bikaner, Rajasthan. However, Ravi is an ex-serviceman.
As per the information, Kurukshetra health officials received the tip-off that a gender determination racket is being run in the Yamunanagar district.
Nodal officer of pre-conception pre-natal diagnostic techniques (PC-PNDT), Kurukshetra, Dr RK Sahai said a deal was fixed with a tout through a decoy patient at Rs 30,000 for gender determination test. The tout called the decoy at the Chappar bus stand in Yamunanagar.
“The tout took the decoy to Nakur, Saharanpur, UP and got her gender determination test done through some quack namely Bablu. An ultrasound was conducted on the decoy at a room in Nakur by a quack and she was told that she has a boy in her womb”, said Dr Sahai.
“While following the suspects, the team lost their contact at Sarsawa toll plaza as accused Ravi used an Indian Army identity card to directly cross the toll. Due to rush at the toll, the team lost contact and preferred to wait for the return of decoy and tout with the help of Yamunanagar police at checking post in Kalanaur police chowki area, which is Haryana border entrance point from UP side”, said Dr Sahai.
He added that on their return, the touts were caught at Kalanaur and Rs 17,000 cash was recovered from their possession, the same currency notes which were given to the decoy by the Kurukshetra health department.
Dr Sahai said both the accused were handed over to the police at Yamunanagar Sadar police station, adding that the hunt for accused Bablu, who conducted the gender determination test is on.
The police officials said that a case against both the accused under relevant Sections of the PC-PNDT Act and Indian Penal Code (IPC) is being registered at Yamunanagar Sadar police station and further investigation is being done.
