MCG to file FIRs against illegal garbage vendors

Gurgaon: MCG will get FIRs registered against illegal garbage vendors operating in areas under its jurisdiction.
The decision was taken after the civic body’s solid waste management concessionaire Ecogreen on Wednesday submitted a complaint against the illegal vendors, RWAs and the councillor of ward number 32 for allegedly disrupting the door-to-door collection of garbage in Sushant Lok and South City-1.
“We are going to issue a letter to the police for registering FIRs against illegal garbage vendors. We will also seek help from them in ensuring unrestricted entry of Ecogreen vehicles in all sectors for door-to-door waste collection,” said Vaishali Sharma, MCG’s additional commissioner.
While Ecogreen alleged that the illegal vendors didn’t allow their vehicles to enter some areas, the residents of Sushant Lok said that the vehicles of the concessionaire “don’t come for waste collection for days”, forcing them to dump garbage on the roadside and vacant plots.
Vishnu Khanna, RWA president of Sushant Lok-1, said, “The residents have been complaining about the irregular services of Ecogreen. Their vehicles don’t turn up for waste collection often. The residents are sometimes left with no option but to dump waste on non-designated spaces. We have now hired a private agency, which is authorised by the MCG for waste collection. It started working from February 1.”
Arti Yadav, the councillor of ward number 32, said, “I have no involvement in this matter. The Sushant Lok RWA, however, is not satisfied with the work of Ecogreen in their area. So they have hired a private firm for waste collection but the firm is also in the list of empanelled agencies issued by the MCG. The councillors had also raised the issue of Ecogreen’s incompetent work in the MCG area in the last house meetings.”
Ecogreen representatives said that they have also submitted complaints to the police against the illegal vendors disrupting their services in the MCG areas.
“We have 22 vehicles for waste collection in ward number 32 alone and had our services been poor, we would not have been able to collect the highest user charges from Sushant Lok,” said Suvendu Samantaray, Ecogreen general manager (operations).
