Temp at 40°C, all eyes on the sky from today
Gurgaon: The city witnessed another hot and humid day with the maximum temperature at 40 degrees Celsius on Monday, a marginal dip from 40.2 degrees Celsius the day before. It was two notches above the season’s normal.
Though IMD had predicted thunderstorms on Monday, the skies remained clear with scorching sunshine and hot winds blowing during the day.Relative humidity index oscillated between 60% and 68%.
A respite from muggy weather conditions is expected from Wednesday, onwards when the city is likely to get light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, an IMD official said.
“There is lot of moisture in the air, and coupled with high temperature, this has increased the discomfort level. An east-west trough currently lies over north India. Moist winds from Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea will blow over northern parts of the country in the lower tropospheric levels, as a result of which there is possibility of very light rain on Tuesday at isolated places in south Haryana,” said Manmohan Singh, director of IMD (Chandigarh).
He added, “Rains with light to moderate intensity are likely on Wednesday and Thursday. A fall of 3-4 degrees Celsius in the maximum temperature is likely in most parts of Haryana later this week.”
According to the IMD’s forecast, the skies will be partly cloudy on Tuesday with a possibility of thunder. The minimum and maximum temperatures are expected to hover around 27 and 40 degrees Celsius, respectively.
Delhi too continued to sizzle on Monday and the weather department expects daytime temperatures to rise further on Tuesday. A respite, however, may follow a day later with rain likely that day.
While the southwest monsoon is on course, the weathermen were still not ready to forecast a date for its arrival in Delhi. “We will forecast the date of arriva on Tuesday. So far it seems the onset of the monsoon will be normal,” said R K Jenamani, senior scientist, IMD.
