187 new Covid cases in Gurugram, lowest since March 30; positivity rate 2.7%

GURUGRAM: The district for the first time recorded less than 200 new Covid cases after a gap of nearly two months. Last time it had reported less than 200 cases was on March 30, when 161 people tested positive.
On Wednesday, Gurugram recorded 187 cases, bringing the total tally to 1,79,256 so far. The positivity rate now stands at 2.7%. The total number of active cases in the district is 2,961.
With eight more Covid deaths on Wednesday, the toll now stands at 779. The fatality rate is 0.4%.
As many as 578 people recovered on Wednesday, and the total number of recoveries has now reached 1,75,516. The recovery rate is 93.8% at present.
Meanwhile, 98 people were sent to institutional quarantine facilities on Wednesday. So far, 15,03,763 people have been put under surveillance. In the past 24 hours, the health authorities collected 6,757 samples for antigen and RT-PCR tests. Till now, 14,91,177 samples have been sent for testing, of which 13,05,164 turned out to be negative, while the results of 3,312 samples are still awaited.
As the number of cases has declined, the admissions to hospitals have also dropped. At present, there are 442 (severe cases) in hospitals and six in district Covid care centres (mild cases). As many as 2,513 people are in home isolation.
“We had a discussion with the private hospitals on Wednesday on restarting elective surgeries as the number of Covid cases is dipping. We will soon reduce the number of beds allotted for Covid care in these hospitals,” said Dr Virender Yadav, chief medical officer.
