Haryana STF seizes 8.5kg of opium, 5 held

Gurgaon:The special task force (STF) of the Haryana Police seized 8.5kg opium from Kaithal and Kurukshetra districts and arrested five persons on charges of drug trafficking.
A Haryana police spokesman said that in the first case, an STF team acted on a tip-off and recovered 3.5 kg opium from the possession of three persons near Cheeka in Kaithal. The arrested accused were identified as Ajay Ram, a resident of Jharkhand, Harbans Singh and Ramjeet Singh, both residents of Punjab. A car was also recovered from the accused.
In the second case, the STF received a tip-off about a truck going from Delhi towards Chandigarh with a large amount of opium. Police intercepted the vehicle and recovered 5kg opium from two accused near Shahabad in Kurukshetra. Initial probe revealed that both the accused used to buy opium from Jharkhand and sell it at higher prices in Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.
The arrested accused were identified as Irshad and Mohammad of Jharkhand. A case has been registered against the accused under relevant sections of the NDPS Act and further investigations are on.
