GURUGRAM: The city police busted a call centre operating from DLF-2 area for the past four months. The sham call centre was duping US nationals in the name of cancelling their social security number.
A team from Cyber police station on Thursday raided the premises of a building in DLF-2 near the Rapid Metro pillar 34 and found a call centre that was operational for the past four months. Nine people, including 5 women and four men, were arrested.
ACP (cyber police) Indivir said the owner of the call centre — identified as David — used to purchase data of foreign nationals and send pre-recorded bulk voice messages to them pretending to call from the department of social security administration.
“The telecaller informed the target about misuse of their social security number and asked them to pay $100 to $500 to escape action,” Indivir said.
