Scattered rain today, monsoon to gain momentum in 2 days

Gurgaon: A few parts of the city witnessed light showers on Sunday evening even though the day remained dry. The maximum temperature climbed to 35.4°C on Sunday from Saturday’s 32.5°C. It was still two notches below the normal.
The minimum temperature, on the other hand, stood at 25.5°C as the previous day. The relative humidity index oscillated between 78% and 89% throughout the day. Till Sunday evening, the city recorded 2.4 mm of rainfall.
According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), patchy rain is likely to continue on Monday as well and its intensity is expected to increase from July 5 with a possibility of heavy showers on Wednesday.
“Rain activities have reduced since July 2 in Haryana which received light-to-moderate rainfall at a few places. However, active monsoon conditions are likely from July 5 to July 7 with fairly widespread to widespread rainfall activity. Thunderstorms and lightning are expected to continue for the next five days. Temperature is expected to range between 35 and 36°C during the next two days. Thereafter, it may fall by 3-4°C due to rain,” the IMD official said.
According to the IMD’s forecast, skies will remain partly cloudy on Monday. Also, maximum and minimum temperature is likely to hover around 26 and 35°C.
Some parts of Delhi too received rain on Sunday. Though showers are likely to continue for the next few days, they are expected to intensify on July 6. India Meteorological Department (IMD) has placed an “orange” alert for July 6 with the prediction of moderate to heavy rainfall.
According to the IMD, Safdarjung, the city’s base weather station, received just 0.1mm of rainfall between 8.30am and 5.30pm on Sunday.
