Kangana’s plea in defamation case rejected

On Tuesday, Andheri metropolitan magistrate rejected Kangana Ranaut’s plea seeking permanent exemption from appearing in the court during the hearing of the case filed by Javed Akhtar. Kangana did not appear in court on Tuesday for the hearing and exempted for the same. However, when the proceedings began, Kangana’s application for permanent exemption was rejected, the court assured that actress will be exempted in specific situations if needed.
This case dates back to 2020, when Javed Akhtar had filed a defamation complaint against Kangana. After Sushant Singh Rajput’s untimely demise in June 2020, Kangana Ranaut had allegedly said in an interview that the noted lyricist belonged to the “suicide gang” of Bollywood, who had pushed “outsiders” like her to end their life. Soon after, Javed Akhtar filed a defamation complaint against Kangana at the Magistrate court.

In a counter complaint filed, Kangana Ranaut has alleged ‘extortion and criminal intimidation’ by Javed Akhtar. The actress had mentioned that she had visited Javed Akhtar’s home in 2016 with her sister Rangoli Chandel, when Kangana was hitting headlines for her alleged romance with Hrithik Roshan. Clarifying on the same, Javed Akhtar had said in court, “I tried to advise and pacify her to settle issues with Hrithik. However, she did not listen to me and told me that she would take the issue as per her choice and she would show him. As she was not in a mood to listen to me, I changed the topics and shared pleasantries with her, offered some tea or coffee to her and saw her off till the lift.” Kangana has reportedly stated that the lyricist had called her home with “malafide intentions and ulterior motives and then criminally intimidated and threatened” her.
