Speed up installation of EV charging stns: MCG boss to officials

Gurgaon: MCG commissioner Mukesh Kumar Ahuja on Monday directed officials to expedite the setting up of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations and conversion of old diesel autorickshaws into e-autos.
The directions came in a meeting with senior officials from MCG, the district administration and police to implement the state government’s e-Parivartan project effectively in the city. At present, Gurgaon has three EV charging stations — one at the community centre in Sector 27, another at the Sector 29 fire station and the third at the MCG office in Sector 42. These stations are offering free charging till April 30.
In addition to this, the corporation is planning to set up two more charging stations.
The commissioner has directed officials to identify the locations for setting them up.
In the meeting, DCP (traffic) Ravindra Tomar suggested that work could be done towards setting up EV charging stations at the parking sites of HSVP and HSIIDC as well. “Besides, installation of charging stations near malls and commercial buildings, petrol pumps and automobile manufacturers can also be explored,” Tomar said.
The commissioner asked the official to share the list of 380 applicants for e-autos with e-auto companies. He also stressed upon organising camps at all auto stands by e-auto manufacturers to encourage auto drivers to switch to EVS.
“In compliance with the directions of the National Green Tribunal, from April 1, diesel vehicles that are more than 10 years old and petrol vehicles that are more than 5 years old are prohibited. This will be strictly enforced,” Ahuja said.
