Murder on Holi: 2 men, who were on run, held

Gurgaon: Two days after a man was allegedly beaten to death during a Holi celebration on Friday afternoon, the police on Sunday arrested the two men who had been absconding since the crime. The remaining three persons who were also involved in the Kanhai village murder case had been arrested on Saturday. The police also recovered sticks and bricks that were used to carry out the crime.
According to police, Rajendra was celebrating Holi with his family and three brothers – Aman, Sonu, and Ravinder – in Kanhai village near Sector 45 at around 2.30pm when his younger brother, Sonu, got into an argument with his brother-in-law Mithun. Following the argument, Rajendra went to Mithun’s rented accommodation to resolve the matter but was thrashed by the latter and his accomplice.
The deceased’s brother, Aman, told the cops that Mithun and his accomplice hit his brother with sticks, rods, and bricks. The victim was hit on the front and back of his head following which he fell on the ground and was bleeding from his injuries. On hearing the commotion, Ravinder went to the house and was also beaten up with sticks, after which the accused fled the spot.
Rajendra was rushed to the Government Hospital in Sector 10 where the doctors declared him dead on arrival. An FIR was registered at Sector 40 police station against five accused under sections 302 (murder), 147 (Punishment for rioting), and 149 (Unlawful assembly guilty of offense) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
On Saturday, the police arrested three of the accused – Mithun (29), Vivek (21) and Ashu (19). The others – Rinku and Ravi – were on the run after the murder and were arrested by the police on Sunday. All the accused hail from Uttar Pradesh and were working in Gurgaon as labourers. “The accused have confessed to their role in the murder. They have said that there was a quarrel within the family while playing Holi on Friday and after that they murdered Rajendra. All the five accused have been arrested by the police and they will be produced before the court,” said a police official.
