Road safety steps: 3-day trial run at Rajiv Chk from tmrw

Gurgaon: Starting from Saturday, traffic police will carry out a three-day trial where the flow of vehicles on the busy Rajiv Chowk will be streamlined to enhance road safety for pedestrians.
Officials said that during the trial period, specific auto stand areas would be created and lane streamlining will be taken up to ensure smooth flow of vehicles and to avoid the creation of dangerous crossovers for pedestrians.
DCP Traffic Ravinder Singh Tomar said the decision to conduct a trial at Rajiv Chowk was taken in a meeting last month. “At the meeting, the plan was decided and we started with arrangements to realise the plan,” Tomar said.
The trial period will begin on March 26 and go on until March 28 and will be led by TRAX Road Safety NGO and implemented by the Gurgaon Traffic police.
Tomar also said that the reason Rajiv Chowk was chosen for the trial was because it was a critical intersection and it was also the crossing where the pedestrians faced the most difficulty. “Rajiv Chowk is an area where pedestrians mostly face problems. In addition, accident rates are also high over here. We also witness a lot of undisciplined traffic in this area,” he said.
Tomar said that depending on the success of the trial, a full-fledged plan will be formed to streamline the traffic in the rest of the city.
