Safety steps: Random checks on school buses soon

Gurgaon: With students gradually returning to campuses, schools have also resumed bus services. The district administration has now directed all the sub-divisional magistrates (SDM) of Gurgaon to carry out random inspection of school buses to assess their safety measures and compliance with the guidelines mandated in the Motor Vehicles (MV) Act.
Deputy commissioner Nishant Yadav said that the SDMs have been asked to carry out the audit of buses belonging to schools in their jurisdictions. “The inspection is aimed at evaluating the safety protocols and compliance with the traffic rules to ensure the safety of students,” he said.

These include installation of CCTV cameras, GPS trackers, reflective tapes and speed governors. Moreover, the driver of school bus shall have at least 5 years’ experience of driving heavy vehicles.
Besides that, the bus should have all necessary documents and not more than three challan receipts for violation of traffic rules. “The SDMs will also check if school buses have all necessary documents . Safety of the students is paramount. Any negligence in compliance with the safety guidelines would be dealt with,” said an official.
