Relief nearer: Showers next wk, monsoon by June 30, says Met

Gurgaon: Southwest monsoon is set to hit Haryana in time on June 30, with first rain of the season expected till July 2 although these will be preceded by pre-monsoon showers, meteorologists said on Thursday.
June 30 is the normal date of monsoon’s arrival to the state. According to forecasts by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), there will be pre-monsoon showers in several districts – including Gurgaon, Faridabad, Sonipat, Karnal and Ambala – from June 27.
“Some parts of Haryana will witness pre-monsoon showers from June 27-28. This will be marked as pre-monsoon showers. Monsoo rains will be witnessed from June 30 to July 2. We can say that the region will witness the arrival of monsoon showers,” said Manmohan Singh, director of IMD-Chandigarh.
The director added that the Met department is expecting more rainy days for the region this year. Rainfall during this year’s monsoon is projected to be “normal” or “above normal”. Haryana’s average rainfall during the season is normally 438.6mm.
However, the sultry weather is likely to continue till the rains arrive later this month. On Thursday, the maximum temperature was 37.2 degrees Celsius, around a degree higher than the day before.
The mercury is expected to rise by four notches till June 26, with the maximum temperature likely to touch 40 degrees Celsius.
The minimum temperature too will increase, meteorologists said on Thursday.
