Hotel staffer steals debit card, buys gold; arrested

Gurgaon: A 32-year-old manager of a city hotel was arrested for allegedly stealing the debit card of a customer and withdrawing Rs 1 lakh from an ATM kiosk to buy gold jewellery.
Police said the victim was in an inebriated state and the manager took advantage of the situation and stole the debit card.
The crime unit examined the CCTV footage of the shop and the ATM kiosk, following which the manager was arrested. Cops claimed to have recovered the gold from the possession of the accused.
In fact, on December 3, the police received a complaint from the victim, Vivek Yadav, that someone had used his debit card and withdrawn over Rs 1 lakh. During the investigation, officials said, it came to light that Vivek had stayed at the hotel for three days, where the accused — Sonu Kumar — was working. Yadav was drunk when the accused asked him to pay the hotel bill. The FIR has been registered under sections 379 (Punishment for theft) and 420 (Cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) of IPC.
