Monkeypox virus: Centre alerts NCDC, ICMR; WHO calls emergency meeting

Issuing an alert to the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), the Central government has asked them to keep a close watch on the monkeypox situation, in wake of a rapid spurt of cases abroad, and send samples of symptomatic travellers to the National Institute of Virology (NIV) in Pune for further investigation. “Keep a close watch on monkeypox situation abroad. Send samples (to NIV, Pune) only in such cases where people display certain specific symptoms. Not samples of sick passengers.”

Heatwave will be back in Gurugram, temperature may touch 45 degree Celsius

The heatwave is expected to last till Sunday GURUGRAM: The city is likely to witness heatwaves again from Thursday after a brief respite. The heatwave is expected to last till Sunday. Gurugram’s maximum temperature was 44 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, five notches above normal. The minimum temperature was 24 degrees Celsius, one degree above normal. Dust-raising winds are also likely. “Heatwave is expected in Gurgaon from Thursday till Sunday. The maximum temperature forecast is 43 to 45 degrees Celsius till the weekend. It will remain dry with hot dust-raising winds during the afternoon hours daily,” said independent meteorologist Navdeep Dahiya. Meanwhile, isolated parts of Delhi saw heatwaves on Wednesday, with some areas suffering at over 44 degrees Celsius. SPAC scrapped, Baring puts CitiusTech on the block for $2.2 bln

Less than a year after calling off plans for a SPAC listing in the US, Baring Private Equity Asia (BPEA) is all set to sell its controlling stake in healthcare analytics firm CitiusTech. BPEA is engaged in talks with a clutch of global buyout funds including Blackstone, TPG and KKR to sell CitiusTech in a deal valuing the firm at around $2-2.2 billion (Rs.15,000 cr), said multiple people aware of the development. JPMorgan is understood to be running a formal process to find a buyer. In 2019, Baring PE Asia outbid top funds Blackstone, KKR, CVC Capital and Bain Capital to acquire CitiusTech for $1 billion (Rs7,500 cr) and a successful deal will help it more than double the money in less than three years. KKR, Blackstone spokespersons declined to comment. Mails sent to BPEA, TPG remained unanswered.
