Haryana: ‘Pathi’ thrashed, paraded with face blackened over ‘immoral acts’

AMBALA: A ‘pathi’ (who recites Gurbani in Gurdwaras) was thrashed and paraded with his face blackened allegedly by some locals in Burhanpur village in Naggal area of Haryana’s Ambala district.
The locals accused the pathi of committing some ‘immoral acts with a woman at the gurdwara premises.
Some locals installed a spy camera in one of the room of the shrine’ and managed to record the video of pathi’s objectionable acts.
They made the pathi to make an announcement while asking all the villagers to gather at the gurdwara.
As soon as the villagers gathered, they asked the pathi about the immortal acts and started assaulting him.
Soon, the villagers blackened his face and paraded him through the village with a garland of shoes around his neck.
When sarpanch Rajwinder Kaur came to know about the incident, her husband reached the spot and tried to pacify the villages.
The pathi hails from Tiwana village in Patiala district in Punjab.
He had been working at Bhurangpur gurdwara for the last about four years.
A video of the incident also went viral on social media platforms but the police did not lodge any complaint against the villagers.
Village sarpanch told that a panchayat was held and it was decided that they won’t file a police complaint but the accused pathi will not enter the village again.
Bhurangpur gurdwara committee president and ex-sarpanch Gurnam Singh said, “I was called by the villagers at 7am on Monday at the gurdwara. They showed me some objectionable video of the pathi with a woman from our village. He was assaulted, his face was blackened and was paraded in the village streets by the youths. The gurdwara committee came to know about the immoral acts on Monday only after the villagers installed a hidden camera and caught the pathi red-handed.”
“The police have not received any complaint in this matter. After the matter came to light, the police had visited the village but no villager or complainant came forward. We are still enquiring into the incident and would take action according to the facts. The villagers had no right to parade a person in such a way,” a police officer said.
