Kangana’s Thalaivi gets ‘U’ certificate in Tamil

The Tamil version of Kangana Ranaut’s ‘Thalaivi’ has been given a ‘U’ certificate without cuts. The makers will be applying for certification of the Hindi and Telugu versions soon, too.
‘Thalaivi’ is based on the life of actor-politician Jayalalitha with Kangana playing the lead role. Initially, the makers of the film wanted the Hindi title to be ‘Jaya’ which was later changed to ‘Thalaivi’. Launched on February 24, 2019, the birth anniversary of Jayalalithaa, the shooting of the film was completed in a year and initially the plan was to release on April 23, 2021, which was pushed to a later date. A source close to the production said, “We plan to release the film in August this year and only in cinema halls.”

The makers of the film initially had big plans for the release and two press conferences were held in both Chennai and Mumbai in March. Kangana was all praise for the South Indian film industry and had said that they were very supportive and inclusive of people from outside. She had reportedly said, “The kind of love and encouragement I have experienced here, I don’t want to leave, I am here now. I hope t0o do many more films here.”
