‘Break farmers’ heads’ order: Karnal DM expresses regret over SDM’s remark

CHANDIGARH: Karnal district magistrate (DM) Nishant Yadav on Monday expressed “regret” over sub-divisional magistrate’s remark in which had asked police to “break” farmers’ heads during their protest in the district.
IAS officer Ayush Sinha drew widespread condemnation from leaders of various political parties and bureaucrats for the order.
“Some words shouldn’t have been used. As head of Karnal administration, I express my regret. But SDM, on duty, is a sincere officer. He used some words in the heat of the moment he shouldn’t have. But his intention wasn’t wrong,” said the DM.
The officer, deputed as duty magistrate during the farmers’ protest, was caught on camera purportedly asking police to break farmers’ heads.
