After 1cr loot, a trip to Vaishno Devi

Gurgaon: Six persons have been arrested for allegedly looting nearly Rs 1 crore from a cash van near Subash Chowk last week. Other than these six, one of the gang members is on the run and is said to be a resident of Uttar Pradesh. A pistol and Rs 70.5 lakh cash have been recovered from them, police said.
On April 18, the gang looted Rs 96.3 lakh from a cash van of M/s S&IB Private Limited of Delhi’s Jhandewalan at gunpoint after throwing chilli powder into the eyes of the driver.
According to the authorities, the cash van used to collect money at the T3 and T1 parking, and other locations before depositing it in the bank.
Police said that after scanning footage from CCTV cameras installed in nearby areas, they found that an Alto car with a fake number plate of Uttar Pradesh had carried out the crime. However, it was found that the car was originally registered in Chattarpur of Delhi.
Subsequently, the police tracked down Diwankar Arora alias Mannu in Chattarpur and arrested him on Thursday night. During investigation, he informed the police about the involvement of four other persons — Neel Kamal alias Kamal from Chattarpur, Gulab from Palwal, Jony from Faridabad and Jitender alias Jeetu from Bihar.
On further investigation, it was found that Jeetu had worked as a driver at the cash transportation company last year.
“While Jeetu had left for Uttar Pradesh, the other three went to Vaishno Devi to pay a visit and offer prayers,” police commissioner, Kala Ramachandran said.
The police formed three teams and deployed each at Katra, Pathankot and Shambhu borders. The three accused who went to Katra were arrested on Saturday night at the Ambala toll plaza near Shambhu border.
Following preliminary questioning, two more accused, Kulbir and Javed, were arrested from Chattarpur. Kulbir owns a transportation firm and that is where the plan to loot the cash van was made, the police said.
Raids were carried out on Saturday and Sunday, when Rs 70.5 lakh cash, a revolver, and four cartridges were recovered.
According to police, Javed, Kulbir and Kamal were childhood friends. “These seven people hatched the plan together in Kulbir’s office,” the commissioner said.
On April 7, the accused conducted a recce. On April 11, the plan to loot was finalised but postponed at the last moment because they could not contact Jeetu.
“They finally committed the crime on April 18. All six are being held in police custody until April 28. Jeetu will be apprehended, and the remaining funds must be retrieved. We are investigating the matter,” Ramachandran said.
