Congress office built on encroached land: Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar

GURUGRAM: The Congress office in Kannan Sarai is built on encroached land, chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar said on Thursday. His remark was a retort to an allegation from the Congress that the BJP, which inaugurated its new office in the city last week, had got land at a much cheaper rate than the other allottees.
According to Khattar, a multi-level parking was planned on the land on which the Congress has its office now. “We could have lifted the encroachment, but we didn’t. It would have been construed as action against the opposition,” he said.
Referring to the BJP office off the Delhi-Gurgaon highway, Khattar said the party had bought the one-acre plot at a rate approved by the government after it gave out advertisements in newspapers, looking for allottees.
“We urge the Congress to also apply for land. They will get a plot of the same size and at the same rate,” the CM said.
In 2016, HSVP — then known as Huda — had announced a policy to allot 4,000 sqmt plots to national and state-level political parties that had presence in the assembly. It had identified five such plots — three in sectors 26 and 41 of Gurgaon and two in Rewari — and sought applications for them.
The authority had then clarified that the parties would have to pay institutional rates and had reserved the price at Rs 10.2 crore for each 4,000 sqmt plot.
The parties were supposed to pay Rs 1.2 crore (10%) as earnest money along with their application forms. But the response was lukewarm. HSVP had received just two applications — one for Gurgaon and another for Rewari. Both the applications were submitted by the BJP through its state chief. In October 2016, HSVP allotted a 4,000sqmt plot to the BJP in Silokhra village for Rs 10.2 crore. The new party office has come up on this land.
On the other hand, the erstwhile Congress government under Bhupinder Singh Hooda had allotted plots to political parties in Panchkula to build their state headquarters.
In November 2016, automobile giant Hyundai had been allotted 7,820sqmt just a few metres away from the BJP office for Rs 205.78 crore through e-auction.
Hyundai had last year shifted to its new office built on the land.
Referring to the stark difference in rates, Congress’s Rajesh Yadav alleged that the BJP was allotted prime land off the highway at a much cheaper price.
“Almost at the same time, the automobile company was allotted land a few hundred metres from the current BJP office for hundreds of crores,” he said.
