Haryana: 4 enter sewage plant’s well in Hisar, don’t make it back

HISAR: Four men, who had entered the well of a sewage treatment plant (STP) in Hisar’s Budha Khera village on Tuesday to carry out some repairs, fainted and drowned inside the structure.
Hisar deputy commissioner has formed a committee headed by the local SDM and ordered a magisterial probe.
The deceased include STP employees Surendra (35) and Rahul (30), and villagers Mahendra (25) and Rajesh (35) who had entered the well to save the other two. As news of the tragedy spread, locals gathered at the spot. There was anger among villagers, with many saying that if gas inside the well was poisonous, the administration should have made proper arrangements for its staffers.
On behalf of the police, DSP Rohtash Singh and Ukalana police station incharge Balwant Singh reached the spot. Later, the public health department’s rescue team too reached the spot. First, the dirty water of the well was emptied and then the work of removing the bodies was started. To fix the motor in the STP’s well, Surendra and Rahul first got down without any safety equipment. When they fainted and fell into the dirty water of the well, Mahendra and Rajesh descended the well, but they also fainted and fell into the dirty water.
