E-beat app for police soon to track & prevent crimes

Gurgaon: The police are all set to launch a new e-beat system to help in the detection and prevention of crime. The centralised-monitored system will help improve patrolling and ensure easy monitoring of police personnel, officials have said.
Each police personnel will have the e-beat application downloaded in their mobile phones. Beats are basically areas assigned to cops to monitor for crime or any other untoward activity. Constables assigned beats will make an entry in the application regarding their patrolling time and series of events.
“We have beats and also constables who are assigned the work, but it becomes difficult to monitor beats. So for that purpose, the e-beat system will make it easier to monitor the beats and help us identify the pattern so that crimes are prevented in future,” said ACP (HQ) Aastha Modi.
Officials said that the beat points will be visited twice every 24 hours. “The real-time updates and assistance will help tackle crime quickly. The timing of the visit is also important. For example, when is an ATM kiosk most vulnerable to theft,” she said.
The police have tied up with a Bangalore-based startup — Rezler Systems Pvt Ltd — which will help in the setting up the e-beat system.
“We are doing a pilot launch in Gurgaon (east) and Pataudi. Based on the results of this launch, we will expand it to the entire district,” said the ACP.
